About the Position: 

Reporting to the Director of Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable (AP/AR), the General Accountant plays a pivotal role within our Finance Team and contributes to various key functions critical to the organization's financial health. As part of a team of seven accounting professionals, this individual will meticulously manage a spectrum of tasks, including accounts receivable entry, corporate credit card reconciliation, bank transaction entry, AR invoicing, account reconciliation support, Payroll support and providing administrative assistance to the VP of Finance. 

This position presents an exceptional opportunity for an aspiring accounting professional to broaden their expertise across all facets of finance within a growing, mission-driven organization. This person will play a key role in supporting elements around cash flow processes and will have the opportunity to assess best practices with AR for the finance team. The General Accountant will work closely with the Revenue Accountant and play a key role in ensuring we have timely, up-to-date, and accurate payments.  

The ideal candidate for this role is a dynamic individual who has experience with AR bank deposit recognition, invoice recording, and tracking payments from funders and can bring these skills to support key reconciliations and payments. What You’ll Do 

Manage and maintain different accounting functions to drive and deliver results for the Finance team 

  • Execute various accounting functions, including but not limited to ensuring payments are made on time and accurately, and ensuring cash flow is managed accurately (add another) to facilitate key monthly and annual financial closes within specified timelines. 
  • Oversee the reconciliation of corporate credit card charges, ensuring the submission of requisite supporting documentation from cardholders, and accurately uploading reconciled entries into NetSuite. 
  • Support the operational efficiency of the JFF finance team by performing a range of accounting, administrative, and bookkeeping tasks, including meticulous data entry, account reconciliation, and preparing accounting reports in adherence to established protocols and guidelines. 
  • Oversee and enter AR invoices into NetSuite, collaborating closely with the Revenue Accountant to ensure timely entry and accurate payment application. 
  • Manage the entry of daily cash receipts into NetSuite, encompassing direct deposits and check deposits. 
  • Maintain oversight of timesheet tracking, collaborating closely with the Senior Accountant overseeing payroll to ensure biweekly timesheets are completed promptly. 

Build stakeholder engagement and provide operational support to help advance Finance team goals. 

  • Cultivate and manage relationships with both internal stakeholders and external clients to deliver exceptional customer service around cash flow and account reconciliations. 
  • Provide support for various accounting functions, including processing staff and vendor disbursements and preparing daily deposits in accordance with Accounting Policies and procedures. 
  • Assist and help the accounting team with various projects supporting JFF's accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting initiatives, including auditor requests. 
  • Collaborate effectively with other members of the finance department team to advance overarching departmental goals to help JFF meet our North Star 
  • Provide administrative and scheduling support to the VP of Finance, which includes formalizing writing and official finance statements are on JFF letterhead, and working to make sure there is standard language communication  

Who You Are: 

  • You bring experience with accounting or bookkeeping, preferably within a fast-paced nonprofit environment, (New hires at the Manager level at JFF typically bring 3-5 years of prior professional experience through a combination of full-time, part-time, internship, and/or freelance positions) 
  • You are organized and efficient across accounting tasks and have experience working with AR invoices, reconciling payments, data entry, and bookkeeping for your team to support your organization’s strategic goals and priorities. 
  • You have hands-on experience working on and supporting monthly financial closes and have helped ensure accurate and timely reporting.  
  • You bring experience working with and making valuable contributions to supporting credit reconciliations and have worked with supporting documentation around reconciliations.  
  • You have extensive experience working with payroll, weekly timesheets and helping ensure payroll information is implemented in a timely and accurate manner  
  • You have experience providing good judgement and analytical thinking with accounting software systems along with online banking systems to help support accurate and timely payment and reconciliation  
  • You bring a knowledge of general accounting theories and principles to help maintain and support JFF in accounting best practices.  
  • You have experience working with Microsoft Excel to manage and track complex financial data systems.   
  • You have experience developing effective relationships with your colleagues and external stakeholders to collaborate successfully on projects, including people whose identities and backgrounds differ from your own.

To improve the employee experience and promote productivity while working remotely, JFF offers an annual home office stipend to all regular full-time and part-time employees. In addition, new employees receive office equipment as needed.   

The hiring range for this role is $68,000-$85,000 annually, in alignment to JFF’s Manager salary band and our compensation philosophy. Starting salaries for new hires will be determined based on a combination of the new hire’s relevant experience and market demands.
