About the position: JFF’s Director, Regional Initiatives will accelerate the Work Unit’s market impact by growing an emerging line of business with an eye toward scaling partner solutions. This will be achieved by managing a current network of regional collaboratives and expanding the current footprint to include additional collaboratives across the nation. JFF is poised to help our partners transcend the traditional education and workforce space to connect and expand efforts on the ground and connect them to emerging education technology platforms, particularly for unemployed workers.   

 

The Director will be instrumental in expanding a growing and key service line that builds regional collaboratives to scale innovative solutions and platforms.  Specifically, they will lead and manage existing partnerships and contracts with our national and regional partners (i.e. national technology providers, employers, national and regional education and training providers, and community-based organizations) to help workers access high-quality training and secure employment at scale. The Director will manage this national effort to collaborate with partner organizations and local intermediaries on the ground in regions nationwide to reach focal populations of impacted workers in need of re/up-skilling and gateway jobs. These partnerships have varying degrees of complexity and multiple stakeholders. Additionally, the Director will lead the strategic expansion into new markets nationally by building and managing a team to execute the day-to-day activities of several key workstreams, including interfacing with senior management at JFF and other partner organizations, team leads, partners, clients, and funders, and managing the initiative to achieve clearly defined objectives and help teams hit deliverables on time and on budget.  

 

The successful candidate has a progressive leadership profile in strategy and operations, is just as comfortable working at a 10,000 foot level as they are in overseeing day-to-day decisions, is highly skilled in designing and developing new partnerships and managing internal and external relationships and stakeholders, and possesses some familiarity with the workforce system, education and training providers, and community-based organizations. They have a proven track record delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate has both private (corporate, professional services or tech) experience and public or nonprofit expertise. A remote working option is available, and this person will report to the Associate Vice President in the Work Unit. 

 

What you'll do 

 

Managing and Scaling Strategic Operations (50%)  

  • Lead the day-to-day management of scaling operations across multiple existing markets, helping teams achieve objectives with an eye toward managing revenue, budget and staff to support the success of the initiative  
  • Identify and anticipate regional and cross-regional challenges and develop and implement solutions to those challenges, in collaboration with senior leadership at JFF and other partner organizations 
  • Develop and manage a communications strategy across markets to keep key stakeholders abreast of the launch and implementation for funders, partners, and JFF  
  • Lead and support the development of  of key external partnerships (funders, partners, etc.) 

 

Leading Expansion Strategy and Implementation (50%) 

  • Lead the implementation of the market expansion strategy, in partnership with JFF senior leadership, and monitor its implementation across communities nationwide to ensure it yields our desired impact on job opportunities for workers 
  • Contribute to business and partnership development through overseeing the design and scoping of concepts, proposal development, relationship management, research on funders and markets, and opportunity pursuit in keeping with JFF's strategic priorities 
  • Build JFF's internal capacity (systems, teams, and skillsets) to institutionalize, sustain and scale the line of business, and support the productization of services and deliverables  
  • Collaborate with JFF colleagues, intermediaries and partner organizations to anticipate organizational or other structural changes and challenges and integrate solutions to address these potential problems into strategy and implementation processes  
  • Leverage JFF's networks, strategic communications and convening power to advance this work and drive impact  

 

Who you are:  

  • You have a minimum of 10+ years of cross-sector experience (e.g. professional services/consulting + social impact field) in mission-driven and entrepreneurial environments, and familiarity and connections with education and workforce systems  
  • You have a commitment to contributing to an equitable work environment and embedding equity into all your work 
  • You have a proven track record of experience managing and growing multi-partner initiatives and/or lines of business 
  • You have a track record of operational success with the ability to bring clarity and encourage coordination across multiple stakeholders 
  • You have experience leading or participating in complex strategic planning processes including designing, implementing and evaluating new initiatives  
  • You have strong judgment with the ability to navigate complex initiatives, stakeholders and partnerships ((e.g. startups, technology providers, education and training providers, community-based organizations and corporate employers) 
  • You have a demonstrated passion for JFF's mission and commitment to applying JFF's core values to all areas of your work  
  • You are a strong people manager and developer, modeling and encouraging inclusive leadership, working effectively with diverse staff, and building and stewarding an organizational culture that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion  
  • You possess an adaptive learning style, with a willingness to take in new information, perspectives and data to inform your work  
  • You are willing to travel on occasion (the frequency will vary according to mix of projects)
