Position Summary

The Database Administrator is a part of our Product Development team and is a primary resource for their product knowledge and advanced troubleshooting skills to resolve complex technical problems. DBA will work with various Jenzabar’s departments, and teams to manage servers and databases for Jenzabar solutions. The person in this position must possess the necessary technical, analytical and communications skills to provide accurate and responsive solutions internally as well as to Jenzabar clients.

Essential Tasks 

  • Install, configure and upgrade databases, DB software and related tools.
  • Update and maintain databases across multiple versions of the Jenzabar products.
  • Work with teams/departments within Jenzabar to determine problems/solutions. Work with design team to produce database designs as required.
  • Act as a facilitator for the Jenzabar teams to trouble-shoot or evaluate software/data issues.
  • Complete duties as assigned by manager and provide technical expertise and recommendations in assessing software/hardware projects and initiatives.
  • Stay current with upcoming versions of Microsoft SQL Server and be aware of changes and challenges that will affect the Jenzabar software.
  • Write documentation/instructions related to standard and custom configuration of servers/databases and operating procedures.
  • Identify opportunities that can improve the efficiency of business processes within Jenzabar and on managed sites.
  • Ethically handle private data, including personal, financial and healthcare.
  • Travel to conferences, when required, with the intention to present and learn.

Essential Skills 

  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts and techniques and be an expert in Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Thorough understanding of all the SQL database administration tasks, database delivery concepts with the ability to maintain a multi-server environment (deployments to hundreds of 24x7 availability customer systems).
  • Proficiency in creating and executing database structure and data enhancement scripts. Install, configure, troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain database systems. Implement, configure, and troubleshoot database instances, replication, backup, partitions, storage, and access.
  • Set and manage user privileges within the database environment.
  • Experience with optimization, performance tuning, debugging and linked servers. Be able to create and maintain SQL Agent Jobs for optimum performance.
  • Ability to gather design requirements from product managers, developers and from client interactions.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of database systems, including schema, configurations, and standard operating procedures. Determine, enforce, and document database policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Generate regular reports on database performance, usage, and security compliance for management and stakeholders.
  • Recommend and implement emerging database technologies.
  • Problem-solving, critical thinking, excellent verbal, and written communication skills to address people with varying technical expertise.
  • Good multitasking abilities and strong organizational skills to be able to plan, coordinate, and track tasks effectively and to meet deadlines.

Preferred Skills and Experience 

 

  • Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience handling client’s production in high availability environments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Experience in academic environment and Higher Education software.
  • Experience with Cloud Infrastructure (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google)
  • Experience with PowerShell scripts.

 

The pay range for this position is $80,000 - $106,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, geographic location, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus in addition to a full range of benefits. This information is provided per the relevant state and local pay transparency laws for the location in which this position will be performed.
