MiniCo’s Contractors Liability Insurance is a leader in general liability and excess liability coverage in New York for commercial and residential contractors, general contractors, and trade and artisan contractors. The Underwriter will work a hybrid schedule in the Woodbury, NY office. 

Our Underwriters are responsible for managing and growing a book of profitable New York Construction business consisting of Commercial General Liability and Excess Liability insurance policies. This role requires experience and judgement to analyze acceptability of risk, rate, quote, bind and service policies within underwriting guidelines while retaining producer relationships.

Responsibilities: 

  • Determine the acceptability, quality and profitability of new and renewal business based on company underwriting guidelines and objectives within authority level.
  • Manage assigned territory so that items such as new lines, renewals, endorsements, claim reviews and related transactions are completed accurately within accepted corporate time frames.
  • Participate in team meetings to assure an effective/cohesive unit as well as to discuss and act upon company strategies.
  • Treat all inquiries on a professional basis, providing timely, courteous, and efficient customer service to Producers, team members and other departments.
  • Make recommendations to Underwriting Team Supervisor on selected risks beyond assigned authority level.
  • Collect, maintain, and review data to make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Assist in resolving any coverage issues/questions, audits, endorsements, accounting, claims or marketing issues as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of underwriting experience.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret underwriting documents and make sound, productive, and profitable decisions.
  • Solid knowledge of insurance concepts and coverages.
  • Strong problem solving, conflict resolution and collaborative team skills.
  • Solid oral, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills.

The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The base pay range for this position will be $70,000-$125,000/year. Discretionary incentive compensation may be awarded.
