The Underwriting Team Lead is a newly created role and will provide technical underwriting guidance and management to Commercial Producers, Underwriters and Support Specialists for the Jencap binding authority business. Provide technical knowledge and skills necessary to underwrite new and renewal business within prescribed authority level.  Ensure underwriting integrity of the book of business within designated area of responsibility, while meeting premium and underwriting profit objectives.

This position will work in our Red Bank, NJ office. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Perform as Team Leader for assigned underwriting group, providing oversight for designated book of business toward meeting underwriting profit and production objectives.
  • Position requires developing close relationships with carriers to deliver on service expectations and expand the book of business.
  • Manage the execution of all endorsements, collect and review data in order to make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Manage retail broker customer calls and requests for policy service.
  • Make recommendations to carriers on selected risks beyond assigned authority level.
  • Work on special projects and programs as directed by leadership.
  • Maintain appropriate file documentation on all risks.
  • Provide underwriting instruction and guidance to commercial production teams and maintaining oversight of carrier referrals.
  • Promote and participate in employee development & training. 
  • Be responsible for overall policy and premium retention of designated book of business.
  • Provide input and oversight of carrier underwriting guidelines and prepare for carrier audits. Mange audit response as it pertains to carrier specific binding authority books of business.
  • Monitor and maintain state compliance for notifications related to non-renewals and cancellations.
  • Participate with other commercial insurance team leaders in developing pricing and underwriting strategy for various programs being managed.
  • Monitor aggregate and rate as a Team Leader for various Lloyds contracts.
  • Schedule regular Underwriting Meetings for commercial production teams.  Coordinate in office visits and regular zoom meetings with the BA carriers to have regular contact with commercial production teams.
  • Attend industry conferences as deemed necessary by management.
  • Promote and participate in employee development & training. 

Requirements:

  • Position requires four (4) or more years of progressively responsible insurance and commercial underwriting experience.
  • Insurance technical training from course material and or designation from CPCU, IIA, CISR, CIC or AU 65 is a plus. Comparable insurance training will be considered.
  • Proficient use of excel, word and/or other software including carrier portal policy issuance systems is needed. 
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills will be necessary.
  • New Jersey State Insurance License may be necessary.
  • Minimum of a high school education with a college degree or equivalent preferred.
