About the Position

We are looking for a Legal Operations Lead to help implement systems that will generate efficiencies for the legal function and execute paralegal tasks that support the wider team.

This role sits within our Legal and Compliance team, a dedicated group of professionals who share a deep understanding of the law, a meticulous commitment to regulatory protocol, and a passion for facilitating business needs as they focus on their daily work. As our Legal Operations Lead, you’ll manage a team of three while also handling daily legal and compliance tasks as needed (e.g., running backlines, tracking the status of documents, reading contracts, parsing through data). Your deep knowledge of legal documentation and processes will foster hands-on mentorship with those across the team. 

The right person will enjoy both working with people and thinking about systems. You will have the opportunity to interact with stakeholders and colleagues across all sorts of groups at Jane Street, including our tech departments and trading desks, to help improve workflows and think about ways to better connect Legal & Compliance to the broader firm. 

We are looking for someone with a project manager mindset who can stay organized and keep team members motivated to keep tasks moving forward. You should enjoy working with people with varying professional skill sets and be able to articulate our team’s needs to others across the firm. The projects you’ll help manage will vary, from more technical (brainstorming how to use AI to improve our legal processes) to conceptual (thinking about how we share information and maintain systems).

You should be a logic-driven, enthusiastic team player who can update quickly based on new information, generate creative solutions, and share your prior knowledge and experience with others to make our work stronger. 

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of paralegal or legal operations experience at a law firm or in house (management experience required)
  • Strong understanding of  legal documentation and corporate governance principles
  • Flexible team leader who enjoys working in a highly collaborative environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and has a “no-job-too-small” attitude
  • A process thinker who can identify bottlenecks, brainstorm solutions, and manage our efforts to resolve them
  • Communicates clearly with colleagues and external partners
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office suite, legal workflow systems, entity management systems, comparison programs, etc.
  • Fluency in English required
