The Opportunity
insitro is pioneering a new approach to drug discovery and development, enabled by the use of advanced machine learning (ML) to interrogate large amounts of cellular, molecular and clinical data. One of insitro's important platforms is the use of proprietary DNA-encoded chemical libraries and selection technologies, combined with ML, for small molecule drug discovery in neurology, oncology and metabolic disease.
We are seeking an experienced chemistry leader, who will guide our molecular strategies using DEL data, and advanced ML to accelerate and increase the success of our preclinical programs. Reporting to the VP, High-Throughput Chemistry in the Therapeutics team, you will manage a small team of DEL scientists at the intersection of target biology and Medicinal Chemistry and Data Science, with the intent of advancing breakthrough therapies for patients in need. You will work onsite at our headquarters in South San Francisco, CA.
Responsibilities
- Support the DEL team in the design of DEL selections/screens and the prioritization of DEL hits for resynthesis and testing
- In partnership with Medicinal and Computational Chemistry, you will guide the design of built-for-purpose DELs to explore property and biology space and develop SAR insights.
- Oversee the synthesis of DEL hits internally and at CRO's and lead teams in the prosecution of drug discovery campaigns
- Collaborate with Data Science/ML in modeling the design, screening, and analysis of DELs
- Promote communication between the DEL- ML platform and the Therapeutics team
About You
Scientific Experience
- BS with 14+ years of experience, MS with 12+ years of experience, or Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or computational chemistry with 9+ years of industrial drug discovery experience
- Passionate about pushing the boundaries of drug discovery with Machine Learning and DNA-Encoded Libraries
- Experience advancing projects through stages of drug discovery in several therapeutic indications
- Experience managing scientific collaboration and CRO resources
- Record of peer-reviewed publications/patent applications
Leadership/Personality Traits
- Data-driven, quantitative mindset, and experience collecting and utilizing data in drug discovery
- 3+ years of leadership experience with DNA-Encoded Libraries
- Experience leading a diverse, inter-disciplinary team
Compensation & Benefits at insitro
Our target starting salary for successful US-based applicants for this role is $245,000-$275,000. To determine starting pay, we consider multiple job-related factors including a candidate's skills, education and experience, market demand, business needs, and internal parity. We may also adjust this range in the future based on market data.
This role is eligible for participation in our Annual Performance Bonus Plan (based on company targets by role level and annual company performance) and our Equity Incentive Plan, subject to the terms of those plans and associated policies.
