The role of the Agronomist is to delight Indigo growers with world-class crop advisory services. Indigo agronomists will have the opportunity to work with a group of forward-thinking growers that have planted Indigo product on their acres – key responsibilities include but are not limited to: field scouting, crop monitoring, inputs recommendations, soil sampling, and crop budgeting/planning with the ultimate goal of maximizing grower profitability. The agronomist will have the opportunity to create lasting relationships with a core grower base, partner with Indigo Account Managers to help growers succeed financially and promote sustainable farming practices that are good for the environment. This person will be to collaborate with Indigo Account Managers to optimize farmer profitability through production, grain market premium, consumer demand and traditional agronomic advice.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive grower profitability by providing unbiased agronomic advice for improving yield, reducing inputs, and improving marketability of crops
  • Assist Grower Account Managers on meeting & on-farm visits to sign up new growers and maintain a book of agronomic business
  • Partner with the Grower Account Manager to provide an exceptional customer experience and drive customer retention
  • Advise/Consult with growers to implement practices to enable carbon sequestration
  • Scout fields and collect data in accordance with the crop call plan
  • Provide feedback to Indigo Agronomy corporate team
  • Implement focused sourcing and provide feedback to Discovery organization
  • Provide feedback on evolving customer needs and offer crop management solutions to meet those needs
  • Demonstrate and speak to the power of aggregated data and what it means to profitability

Competencies:

  • Experience at defining and implementing on-farm performance trials
  • Clear communication skills
  • Strong business sense and understanding of economics
  • Focused on farm profitability, not necessarily max yield
  • Loves continual learning, agile in approach, open to learning new approaches
  • Able to put their own biases on the table
  • Able to interpret technology and tools to provide data driven information to growers

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience in region in a leading agronomy role
  • Masters or Bachelors in Agronomy
  • Experience in a specific region / crop
  • Experience at farm management companies, preferred
  • Strong knowledge of farming, may have farming background
  • Located in Southwest Kansas, required
