ABOUT THE ROLE…
This is a great opportunity for a dynamic and self-motivated Research Associate to join our fast-growing and collaborative team. This is a hands-on, lab-based role with a focus on the molecular characterization of plant material.
AS A RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, YOU WILL...
- Work with state-of-the-art genomic technologies in support of genome editing product development and be involved in all aspects of the Next-Gen sequencing workflow
- Process biological samples for multiple projects utilizing SOPs for various NGS applications
- Perform NGS library (e.g. amplicon-seq and enrichment-seq) preparation/QC for Illumina sequencing and sequencing data analysis
- Troubleshoot challenges that occur during library preparation, and identify opportunities for protocol improvement
- Development and deployment of appropriate automation/ robotics to aid processing and improve throughput
- Work collaboratively within the NGS team to complete team projects and achieve goals and deadlines
- Explore new technologies and identify innovative solutions to optimize current processes in a fast-paced research environment
- Participate in experimental design and troubleshooting efforts, developing high-throughput methodologies, and assays
YOU BRING…
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. molecular biology, plant biotechnology) with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in an industry or academic research setting
- Knowledge of molecular biology techniques
- Expertise in working with high-throughput RNA, DNA, NGS library generation, and various NGS technologies
- Proficient in troubleshooting NGS library preps
- Excellent time management, detail-oriented and process oriented mindset
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- A collaborative approach, open to giving and receiving ideas, perspectives, and feedback
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS…
- Knowledge of genome editing technologies
- Experience in library prep on an automated liquid handling platform
- Ability to program in a scientific programming language (e.g., R, JMP, Python) and perform basic bioinformatics analyses
