imo is a global messaging platform based in Palo Alto, California, and was founded and funded by one of the first ten employees at Google. Our current team consists of TopCoders, ACM ICPC World Finalists, and medalists of the International Olympiads in Informatics. We work on challenging projects that we choose from the ground up that have direct impact on our 200-million monthly-active users.

We are currently seeking Systems/Site Reliability Engineers to join our Engineering team who would be responsible for supporting services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning and launch reviews, and maintaining services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health.


  • Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity
  • Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems
  • Release, monitor, scale and operate TrueMotion's backend application
  • Participate in code reviews and architecture meetings
  • Support and continuously improve our release and deployment pipeline
  • Build and operate tools that monitor backend production
  • Make sure backend services scale economically
  • Develop tooling framework
  • Help the dev team resolve production issues

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS/MS/PhD in computer science
  • Experience in one or more of the following: C, C++, Java, Python, Go, Perl, Ruby or shell scripting
  • Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems internals and administration (e.g., filesystems, system calls) or networking (e.g., TCP/IP, routing, network topologies and hardware, SDN)
  • 2 years of industry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with system management tools like Puppet, Chef or Ansible
  • Knowledge of server hardware and/or experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Familiarity with information security standards and best practices
