Position Summary 

Scope of Job

The IHI Terrasun Solutions Field Engineering Specialist and Parts Manager will provide customers with technical direction and support for ITS systems, including hands on installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of these products at our Gemini Solar Facility in Moapa, NV. Additionally, the successful candidate will provide leadership, direction and support for parts and warranty management processes. The Field Engineering Specialist must be able to articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users and must be able to identify all technical issues of assigned accounts to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the system life.

Primary Job Functions

  • Install, commission (validate and verify), execute preventative maintenance, and repair energy storage systems
  • Provide technical consultation and product support to technical and commercial counterparts, including communications with other Field Service Engineers, Sales, Engineering, Product Management, and Logistics daily
  • Communicate customer feedback to Engineering and Sales teams
  • Conduct training of customer personnel via a train-the-trainer program to enable them to operate equipment safely and effectively
  • Provide technical support for fault isolation and troubleshooting
  • Communicate directly with the customer concerning final warranty decisions
  • Develops, communicates, and monitors effective Parts and Warranty management processes to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction as well as Service Department efficiencies. 
  • Generate spare parts cost models 
  • Manage the inventory of replacement parts, including ordering, receiving, and stocking parts. 
  • Maintain a parts database that includes information on part numbers, suppliers, and pricing. 
  • Generate spare parts lists and receive vendor specific quotes to meet project requirements 
  • Coordinate return and repair of defective parts in support of warranty claims
  • Develop and manage field tools for field assignments / projects

 

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or similar (4 year degree) or 8+ years relevant experience in field engineering & services in electrical power equipment or energy space 
  • Experience with high power electrical equipment and work
  • Demonstrated ability to exceed individual performance goals and to work with engineering & sales personnel to achieve team objectives
  • Self-directed, highly detail-oriented, organized, and flexible
  • Familiarity with maintenance management systems and inventory management software.
  • Requires knowledge of shipping, receiving, warehousing, inventory control, cycle counting, packaging, and logistics.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of detailed requirements of a broad range of battery applications
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, analyze, and interpret data
  • Knowledge of battery standards, regulations, and safety procedures
  • Demonstrated accomplishments in meeting project/program goals, while satisfying quality, performance, schedule, and cost requirements
  • Project and people management experience
  • Demonstrated accomplishments in customer-focused problem solving

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work is performed both in an office environment and in the field.
  • When working at a customer project site or supplier facility, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be worn for safety purposes.
  • Limited travel is required to customer project sites and supplier manufacturing facilities.
  • Physical demands to include standard office-based activities and parts handling up to 50 lbs. for inventory management purposes. Walking on rough terrain, bending or kneeling minimally, desert environment for field task assistance.  

 

Travel & Location:

The is an onsite position based in Moapa, NV, and may involve 5% or more travel to customer sites or warehouse locations, including international.

The national pay range for this role is $80,000 - $95,000 / year and is considered a Level S5 – Support Specialist role. This pay range may be slightly lower or higher based on the geographic location of the hired employee. The actual pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, and location. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in an annual discretionary bonus.
