Scope of Job

IHI is looking for a self-driven individual with a proven track record of high performance in Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sales. The Sr. Sales Manager’s primary function will be to become the face of IHI Terrasun to the marketplace, and our customers. The candidate will be challenged to solve technical & commercial problems with our partners weekly to take large-scale (above 50MW Battery) projects from concept & quotation, to award & contract. In addition to the customer-facing aspect of the position, the role will require a functional knowledge/understanding of electrical design principles as it relates to Solar + BESS + Controls & Automation + Power Plant Controls/SCADA.

 

The Sr. Sales Manager will also work closely with the IHI Terrasun internal team members (Legal, Engineering, Product, Projects, Field Service, Exec Team) to ensure all internal stakeholders are aligned and moving the projects to contract and successful execution. The Sr. Sales Manager role will need to use IHI Terrasun Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools for data logging, project management, and internal communications. The position will be expected to move their projects from start to finish across the necessary stages of development internal to IHI Terrasun following our established project management flow. Good communication, project management background, and  most importantly a collaborative spirit will be needed for the internal responsibilities of the position.

 

Primary Job Functions

  • Interact with IHI Terrasun’s customers weekly, and act as the face of the organization
  • Drive new account development through prospecting, cold calling
  • Lead virtual and in-person trainings on the IHI technical and commercial offering
  • Attend industry conferences and represent the organization
  • Use strategic ‘value-selling’, ‘selling beyond price’, and ‘challenger sales approach’ to differentiate the IHI hardware, software, services solution
  • Navigate a long (months)/complicated B2B sales cycle
  • Manage projects internally across IHI interdisciplinary teams (legal, finance, project management, engineering, product management, software, field services)
  • Report through executive team in Tokyo Japan on progress both through CRM software and through weekly virtual reporting

Qualifications (Education & Work Experience)

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Undergraduate bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering
  • 5+ years in Technical Sales. Preferably with strong background with BESS + electrical hardware + software, and field services.  
  • Experience internal project management
  • High capacity for organization and attention to detail.
  • Fast learner and capable of executing multiple projects and objectives.
  • Strong verbal and written skills. Strong presenting skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Skills (Office, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Background in Legal negotiations a plus

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Business or Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in energy storage or renewable energy

 

Tools & Equipment

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • CRM software (SmartSheet favorable)

The national pay range for this role is $195,000 - $225,000 / year and is considered a Level M4 – Career Senior Manager role. This pay range may be slightly lower or higher based on the geographic location of the hired employee. The actual pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, and location. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in an annual discretionary bonus.
