What we do: 

The Sr. IT System Engineer is responsible for design, implementation, support, and maintenance of the server & cloud infrastructure of a growing engineering organization. This role will work with broadly with IT infrastructure but has an emphasis on high performance compute clusters and hybrid infrastructure design. This position will work closely with internal colleagues, partner organizations, service providers, and other 3rd parties to improve uptime, reliability, and efficiency. A qualified candidate will have proven experience designing and building server clusters and other advanced infrastructure design. They will also have experience with public cloud, hybrid and multi-cloud compute design, and a security-first approach to implementing IT services.

What you can do: 

  • Drive design and implementation of server infrastructure across the company
  • Partner with internal contributors in developing and maintaining high performance compute (HPC) infrastructure(s)
  • Supervise service performance, logs, and reports to improve reliability and uptime, and solve issues
  • Selection, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of server, rack, data center equipment
  • Work with internal partners to translate performance requirements into specs and design
  • Evaluate existing IT infrastructure design, configuration, and hardware for improvements
  • Swiftly respond to outages and other issues
  • Schedule and participate in maintenance windows for repairs, upgrades, and patching
  • Stay up to date on published vulnerabilities, exploits, and other security risks, and ensure all hosts are kept secure
  • Maintain documentation and inventory of servers, VMs, and other critical assets
  • Serve as escalation point for advanced support issues and requests that require sophisticated access
  • Other duties as needed

What you can contribute: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS or other related field or equivalent experience
  • Several years of experience as a systems administrator / engineer / architect or similar role
  • Proven experience crafting and implementing compute or storage clusters
  • Experience managing a large number of servers or VMs
  • Experience managing public and private cloud infrastructure
  • Experience building and operating supercomputing / HPC clusters
  • Strong understanding of hardware requirements for high speed computing
  • Strong experience in Linux
  • Knowledge of security best practices

You may also be able to contribute: 

  • Experience with Export Administration Regulations (EAR) or ITAR
  • Experience in heavily regulated industries, particularly aerospace
  • Experience and/or certification with Microsoft Azure – AWS is good too
  • Knowledge or experience with microservices, docker, Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of networking considerations for large server clusters
  • Experience supporting AI / machine learning workloads
  • Knowledge of message passing interface (MPI) libraries such as OpenMPI, MPICH, or others
  • Experience coordinating batch schedulers such as Torque, PBS, or others
  • Hand-on experience working in data center environments and an understanding of related requirements / facility considerations.
