What we do:

We are looking for an experienced mechanical design engineer as part of the overall assembly and integration product team. This role will be responsible for developing design solutions that support the overall long-term goals of the product. Creating standard processes and procedures within their discipline while interfacing with the design team throughout the conceptual, preliminary, and detail design.  This person will be heavily involved in the building of prototype and flight test aircraft as well as incubating technology that will be transitioned to the operations/production team in the long run. You will contemplate design for manufacturing from the beginning and ensure a smooth transition into production with the operations team. You also will interface with all technical development teams, including systems, interiors, flight technology, and airframe. This role has the potential to grow into a leadership position as the team expands.

What you can do: 

  • Design mechanical / structural systems and products based on a set of given and derived requirements
  • Work directly with System engineering to gather and understand the project design requirements
  • Develop technology and transition it to production
  • Experience designing CNC Machining, injection molding, vacuum formed plastic, sheet metal stampings, castings, forgings, and composite components
  • Understand corrosion in metallic components and best practices for plating and corrosion prevention
  • Modify designs based on cost, weight and manufacturing targets and capabilities
  • Work with structural analysis team to verify capabilities of structure before fabrication
  • Hold design reviews and presentations among peers to gain design feedback
  • Participate and provide constructive feedback in design reviews/brainstorming sessions held by other engineers/designers working on various projects
  • Identify process deficiencies and develop solutions to improve those deficiencies
  • Prepare and author various manuals / templates such as design standard and best practices, procedures, and processes
  • Assure system and product quality by confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing and assembly issues
  • Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information
  • Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests
  • Create 3D models of design details per design best practices using Catia
  • Prepare manufacturing drawings to ASME Y14.5 standards using GD&T for manufacturability and repeatability in Catia
  • Creation and maintenance of a Bill of Materials for one or more projects
  • Record notes, design changes, and test results
  • Collaborate with Project / Program Managers to develop an accurate accounting of all engineering hours required for various types of internal projects
  • Maintain relationships with key material and component vendors
  • Provide technical support to vendors and manufacturing teams
  • Ensure compliance with safety / regulatory standards
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Interface with all engineering disciplines to ensure design for manufacturing principles are built in early
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by manager

What you can contribute:

  • Pat least 5 years of experience in mechanical design
  • ASME Y14.5 standards
  • Expert knowledge of Catia
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Solid Works a plus
  • Extensive experience in aircraft or automotive interior design
