What we do:

Overall responsibility and accountability for developing, incubating, then executing on the strategy for manufacturing at Hyundai UAM. The Manufacturing Guru will join the UAM Special Operations team in the Office of the Chief Operating Officer at an exciting time where they get to help develop the strategy for manufacturing Hyundai’s UAM vehicles, and take that vision through to implementation. Once the manufacturing strategy is set and incubated, this role has the opportunity to branch out from Special Operations and grow into leading a new department.

You will take these principles and translate them first into a plan and overarching strategy, then incubate manufacturing roadmaps, capabilities (e.g., potential factories, processes, and technologies), and partnerships to deliver exceptional quality products that delight our customers. You will be responsible for the full manufacturing incubation, including strategy, people planning, and budgetary management in close collaboration with the rest of the leadership team.

What you can do:

Strategy and Development:

  • Overall responsibility for Manufacturing strategy, planning, and incubation across the business
  • Collaborate closely with Hyundai Motor Group affiliate companies to leverage the best of Hyundai in all aspects of the manufacturing function
  • Guided by the 4 guiding principles of manufacturing, develop a comprehensive strategy to produce Hyundai’s UAM vehicles in target volumes by target entry into service (EIS)
  • Provide expert guidance to UAM engineering and R&D on design for manufacturability for vehicle design and development
  • Working closely with the CIO’s office, develop a strategy and requirements for digital manufacturing infrastructure
  • Develop a comprehensive safety strategy for UAM manufacturing
  • Lead assessment of potential impact and applicability of advanced manufacturing technologies to UAM production
  • Working closely with Advanced R&D and Hyundai Motor Group affiliates, drive development of and investment in key advanced manufacturing technologies
  • Working closely with UAM Policy, develop System-Wide-Safety strategies and processes for UAM production, compliant with FAA requirements
  • Support UAM Policy in pursuing and securing Production Certification for UAM vehicle designs, and design and implement required systems, processes, and tools
  • Define requirements for manufacturing facilities and work closely with Partnerships and Facilities to determine manufacturing locations and partners as appropriate
  • Develop and implement best practice manufacturing vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures for the organization’s manufacturing capabilities
  • Ensure that manufacturing strategies and processes are in place (whether internal or through partnerships) to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality, and delivery targets

General/Task Management:

  • Cultivate and enforce a strong, industry-leading safety culture
  • Lead, develop, and implement cost productivity programs across all areas of responsibility
  • Implement a diverse, inclusive, and customer-focused operational culture delivering world class products for our customers
  • Set OKRs for manufacturing capabilities 

People Management:

  • Provide leadership to teams and coach, mentor, and develop direct reports
  • Attract and retain high-performing teams by cultivating a diverse and inclusive work environment for talented people
  • Work with HR to translate manufacturing goals into specific annual performance goals and team objectives including KPIs
  • Ensure that the capabilities are designed and executed in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of staff and visitors

What you can contribute:

  • Educated to degree level (preferably Masters) in a relevant engineering/manufacturing discipline
  • Demonstrated experience leading a manufacturing function with a proven track record in strategic manufacturing leadership
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing leadership and deep familiarity with FAA requirements and regulations
  • Experience setting manufacturing strategy and leading greenfield manufacturing development projects
  • Experience either designing or implementing digital manufacturing initiatives or transformations in automotive, aerospace, or other heavy industry vertical
  • Proven project management and build quality experience
  • Experience of operating and influencing at a strategic level
  • Knowledge and technical understanding of aerospace processes, components, and manufacturing techniques
