What we do: 

The Hyundai Urban Air Mobility Division is looking for a technical lead for the Flight Controls - control laws (CLAW) team.  This person will lead the control law team to define flight modes, system architecture, aircraft response type, and control strategy.  This person will also lead the control laws system requirements.  This position will also define the system best practices and system philosophy.  The CLAW lead will work closely with the Systems and Software leads to define the I/O architecture and the flight controls sensors required.  This position will lead software build content and scheduling in partnership with the Systems lead and head of Flight Controls.  The CLAW lead will also work closely with Human factors to design an updated cockpit control design for Simplified Vehicle Operations (SVO).  This position will also be heavily involved in leading certification efforts for the flight control system.  The CLAW lead may include an opportunity to develop into a management role as the team scales.

What you can do: 

  • Technical lead for Flight Controls Control Law team
  • Establish system architecture, flight modes, response type, and control strategy
  • Oversee CLAW strategy for handling failures that affect aircraft handling qualities
  • Oversee CLAW strategy for actuator and motor control mixing
  • Coordinate interface and control for autonomy with Intelligent Systems counterparts
  • Define and maintain control laws system requirements
  • Lead build content and schedule in coordination with Systems lead and Head of Flight Controls
  • Work with Human Factors to design SVO cockpit
  • Oversee certification activities including documents, test planning, and test reports
  • Interface with powertrain, avionics, intelligent systems and other IPTs for flight controls interface
  • Define and maintain progress metrics to keep team and management up-to-date on status, KPIs, risk, and mitigation plans
  • Communicate control laws team status to Head of Flight Controls

What you can contribute: 

  • Experienced in team leadership and project management
  • Experience with Fly-by-wire aircraft systems
  • Experience in CLAW development – both logic and handling qualities development
  • Experience with sensor processing
  • Experience with requirements and configuration management in software development flow
  • Experience with flight testing
  • DO-178B/C, DO-160, DO-254, ARP 4754A, ARP 4761 familiarity
  • Expertise with MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow
  • Familiarity with FAA part 23/25/27/29 or other certification experience
  • Highly collaborative and great communication skills

You may also be able to contribute: 

  • Experience on aircraft with multiple different modes of flight, including vertical lift
  • B.S. in aerospace or relevant engineering field
  • M.S. in aerospace or relevant engineering field
  • Experience with system identification tools (CIFER, CONDUIT) 
  • Experience with agile process
