What we do:

The IT Systems Engineer, R&D is responsible for design, implementation, support, and maintenance of the organization’s server, compute, and storage environment. This position reports into the IT department but will work very closely with the R&D engineering organization. We are looking for an experienced systems admin / engineer with a particular focus on experience supporting R&D related systems and infrastructure. In addition to core IT systems, R&D specific systems will range from traditional CAD/CAM environments to advanced hybrid compute clusters.

This role is based in Fremont, CA.

What you can do:

  • Take a major role in architecting a scalable & secure hybrid infrastructure leveraging on-prem & colo servers and IaaS solutions such as AWS and Azure
  • Plan and deploy server/VM resources for R&D specific services including compute, storage, code control, design version control,
  • PLM, license checkout, collaboration, and similar systems
  • Manage and support server/VM resources for core IT resources
  • Monitor performance, capacity, uptime, and other metrics of the systems infrastructure to identify problems early, respond to issues, and provide suggestions for changes or upgrades
  • Quickly respond to and troubleshoot issues and outages
  • Routinely perform testing on business-critical processes such as backups, disaster recovery, and breach response
  • Provide support for advanced and escalated issues
  • Partner closely with members of the product R&D groups to stay on top of requirements and plan for scale
  • Work closely with IT staff to ensure all systems meet corporate security, governance, and other requirement
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all managed resources
  • Develop extensive documentation of configurations, procedures, and training material
  • Provide guidance and knowledge to support staff, junior admins, and other colleagues
  • Develop scripts, automations, templates, system images, etc. to streamline and eliminate human error
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance windows, notify affected users, and document results
  • Other related duties as needed

What you can contribute:

  • B.S. in computer science or similar field, or equivalent experience
  • Several years’ experience in a systems administrator / engineer role
  • Experience with load balancing, high availability, auto-scaling configurations
  • Experience designing and managing high performance compute (HPC) clusters
  • Scripting, automation and orchestration knowledge
  • Experience administering Windows & Linux servers
  • Candidates with experience supporting product software and hardware development teams and their specialized service are highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity best practices
  • Solid understanding of network concepts such as WAN, LAN, TCP, UDP, DHCP, DNS, and other related protocols
  • Solid understanding of source code management and related platforms such as Github or Bitbucket
  • Experience administering hybrid on-prem + cloud infrastructures
  • Strong knowledge of high performance computer and server hardware

You may also be able to:

  • Experience with Atlassian tool suite
  • Experience in highly regulated industries, particularly aerospace
  • Knowledge of export controls and compliance is a plus
  • Certifications such as MCSE, RHCSA, AWS, and Azure certifications is a plus
  • Experience with Dassault Systems products and other 3D design, simulation, PLM is a plus
  • Platforms and DevOps experience is a plus
  • Experience supporting Machine Learning / AI infrastructure is a plus
  • Data center / hosting experience is a plus
