You will be working in the Machine Intelligence & Analytics department while collaborating extensively with the Data Team, Simulation Team, Civil team on a variety of exciting greenfield projects and research efforts.
You will be collaborating with hardworking and smart engineers to build the next generation of transportation software systems.
You will gain ownership of parts of the platform we are building to do infrastructure optimization. We will be building out different components of the optimization tool where you will be given the opportunity to make important architectural and design decisions as well as implement important sections of the code.
You will get the opportunity to develop novel algorithms for important problems that Virgin Hyperloop are working on.
You will be working on different layers of the application, from backend databases and algorithms, to structuring the APIs as well as get involved in the application layer and front-end.
In this role, you will serve as a thought and technical leader where you will be making critical decisions that shape the core system design.
Daily responsibilities include:
Design and architecture
Mentor junior engineers
Code implementation and algorithm design/testing
Code reviews and documentation
Exchanges with partner teams
Masters/Ph.D. in Computer Science or a relevant engineering field
3-5 years of relevant industry experience as a machine learning engineer, optimization engineer or operation research engineer
Strong knowledge of software engineering principles
Industrial experience in building scalable software platforms
Working knowledge of algorithm design and usage
Working knowledge of backend (database) design, API design
Knowledge of Python, Matlab/R as well as associated scientific packages
Knowledge of Agile methodologies, Jira/Confluence
Ability to mentor junior engineers
NICE TO HAVE
Knowledge of optimization, specifically convex optimization
Having experience using optimization packages in Python
Having experience publishing in technical journals
