GRANTS COORDINATOR
Development & Outreach Department

The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking applicants for the position of Grants Coordinator. The Grants Coordinator provides administrative and communications support to the twelve-person Foundations and Program Liaison Office within the Development and Outreach Department, which handles the fundraising and outreach activities of HRW. 

This full-time position will be based in the East Coast time zone of the US, with a preference to be based in New York, and will report to the Senior Associate Director of Foundations based in New York.   

The successful candidate may have the option to work remotely. We aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position. 

Responsibilities: 

1. Provide administrative support including scheduling meetings, preparing for and taking minutes at meetings, and responding to inquiries and requests for information; 
2. Prepare proposal and report packages with relevant attachments; 
3. Liaise with the Finance Division to provide donors with financial reports;
4. Update database records with reporting deadlines and requirements, grant opportunities, call reports, and other grants-related data; 
5. Process grant agreements and award letters; 
6. Draft acknowledgment letters and other correspondence as needed; 
7. Draft templates and other materials to share programmatic writing across the Development and Outreach Department;
8. Maintain charity watchdog profiles as well as other charity certifications and seals; 
9. Assist with prospect research and briefings; 
10. Proof proposals, reports, and other written and financial materials;
11. Develop data management to optimize Foundations’ use of Salesforce, including how best to use the system to store and generate reports, working with the data services team as needed;
12. Train the Foundations team on how best to use Salesforce, as well as training as needed on how to navigate and use the system; 
13. Assist the writers on the team with writing reports as needed; 
14. Assist with the recruitment and mentoring of assistants; and  
15. Carry out other duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience, is required. 

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience is required. 

Related Skills and Knowledge:  

1. Prior office/administration experience and strong organizational skills are required.
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. 
3. A desire to build a career in grant writing and institutional fundraising is desirable. 
4. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences, including donors, are required. 
5. Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously are required.
6. Self-motivation and the ability to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision, and work independently as well as function as a member of a team are required.
7. Strong analytical skills and the natural curiosity and creativity needed to conduct online research are required.
8. Ability to make sound decisions consistent with functions is required. 
9. Proficiency in computer programs including MS Office applications is required.
10. Experience with Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or other donor databases is required.
11. Experience with event planning, community engagement, and/or philanthropy is desirable.
12. Strong interest in human rights is desirable.

Salary and Benefits: If based in the United States, the salary range for this position is USD 62,060- 66,387. Human Rights Watch offers competitive salary and comprehensive employer-paid benefits.
