Senior Engineers in this role are expected to design and deliver complex, scalable solutions, drive technical decisions, and act as go-to experts in their domain. Senior Engineers at this level are trusted to solve intricate challenges, balance short- and long-term priorities, and ensure the success of their team’s most critical projects.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle ambiguity and complexity.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with an ability to provide constructive feedback and mentor others.
  • A deep passion for technology, continuous learning, and quality.
  • A growth mindset and a desire to continually improve your technical skills and leadership abilities.

Key Expectations

  • Problem Solving & Leadership: You are a strategic, autonomous problem solver who can drive complex projects from start to finish, managing multiple teams and technologies with minimal guidance.
  • Technical Excellence: You address long-standing technical challenges and advocate for scalable, high-quality solutions that balance immediate business needs with long-term sustainability.
  • Team Impact: You collaborate closely with your team, providing feedback, reviewing designs, and shaping priorities with your Technical Lead, Product Manager, and engineers. You may also serve as an interim TL when needed.

  • Ownership of Complex Projects: You take full ownership of large, high-impact projects, ensuring they are scalable, sustainable, and aligned with the broader system architecture.

Growth Opportunities

As a Senior Software Engineer (Level II), you will have multiple avenues for growth:

  • Expand Your Technical Scope: Deepen your expertise in your current area or broaden your focus by working across multiple product areas or teams.
  • Master New Platforms: Continuously develop expertise in additional technical platforms, tools, or languages.
  • Take on Larger System Design: Own and design larger, more complex systems and cross-platform features, driving system-level architectural decisions.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Develop your leadership skills by mentoring junior engineers and stepping into more significant technical leadership roles. You’ll work closely with your TL, PM, and Product Development (PD) teams to guide the technical direction of the team and the product.
  • Broaden Influence Across Teams: Grow into a cross-team technical leader, guiding larger projects or system-wide initiatives that span multiple teams.

Career Path

There are several paths for growth and advancement from the Senior Software Engineer (Level II) role:

  • Tech Lead (TL) II: Senior Engineers (Level II) can transition to a Tech Lead role, where they will not only be expected to continue excelling as strong individual contributors but also demonstrate leadership by owning projects, mentoring junior engineers, and driving technical decisions across the team.
  • Staff Engineer: To move into a Staff Engineer role, you’ll need to demonstrate deep technical expertise and the ability to autonomously lead large, impactful projects. Staff Engineers typically drive significant technical direction and contribute to shaping the overall architecture of systems at a higher organizational level.
