At HR Wallingford our team of engineers and scientists apply world leading skills and knowledge to deliver the hydraulic design of intakes, outfalls and pumping stations for projects including major desalination plants and nuclear power projects worldwide. We blend physical and numerical modelling with practical engineering and experience to provide unique validation and insights to the projects we are involved with, setting us ahead in industrial hydraulics.
As Technical director you will: help lead the growth of HR Wallingford’s delivery in the global industrial hydraulics sector; support and consolidate the technical excellence in hydraulics in the engineering group and uphold the standard and quality of work that HR Wallingford is recognised worldwide for; and drive innovation and innovative techniques to support ongoing sustainability within the engineering group and across the company.
Key qualifications and skills
- Professional membership of a relevant body (e.g. Institution of Civil Engineers), Chartered, and or a postgraduate degree in a relevant field;
- An engineering or science related degree with a strong numerical and analytical background;
- Ability to take the initiative, find solutions and proactively drive progress.
- Ability to support and work closely with other members of the Engineering Team to optimise the hydraulic design of structures and facilities
- Experience in project management with the planning, management and delivery of technically challenging and complex projects on time and on budget.
- Real world experience of hydraulic design and hydraulic performance analysis for both open channel and closed-conduit/ pipe flows.
- Real world expertise or experience of steady state and dynamic/ transient analyses, including application of computational/ numerical models.
- Real world experience of design and operation of physical/ laboratory scale models for hydraulic structures.
