Role Description:
HOPPR is seeking a highly motivated Innovation and Clinical Researcher to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in driving our mission to develop the first AI foundation model to revolutionize medical imaging, improve patient outcomes, and assist providers. The ideal candidate will play a key role in developing and optimizing methodologies that enhance our model development and validation processes. Your expertise will ensure robust, reliable, and reproducible use of the HOPPR foundation model that will contribute to our cutting-edge clinical research initiatives. In addition, you will act as the primary liaison between our organization and esteemed academic institutions to coordinate and support research activities, foster productive collaborations, and ensure alignment with HOPPR’s research and commercial goals. Lastly, you will be responsible for the dissemination of research findings through high-impact publications and to internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
Innovation Research
- Explore and experiment with the latest advancements in generative AI research to improve model performance and capabilities
- Stay up to date with the latest trends, tools, and technologies in the generative AI field, particularly as applied to medical imaging
- Document testing and validation process and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team
- Identify and refine techniques that improve model performance of existing models
- Communicate proposed solutions to internal team so they understand the benefits and drawbacks of proposed solutions
Clinical Research
- Drive novel research using foundational AI methods to solve real-world clinical problems, with a specific focus on improved patient outcomes and imaging workflows
- Guide, conduct, and support research and advanced clinical applications with key research collaborators
- Manage research agreement development and deliverables
- Support HOPPR's network of academic partners to drive clinical co-creation projects that guide product development and generate evidence to support claims through scientific publications
Research Output
- Author/co-author publications in top-tier medical and AI journals to demonstrate improvements in technical development, patient outcomes, and/or imaging workflow
- Encourage and support academic output with collaborators
- Present results at internal and external scientific venues, conferences, and workshops
- Manage output from academic collaborations to provide input for product development, clinical evidence generation, etc.
- Work collaboratively internally with cross-functional HOPPR teams
Qualifications:
- Doctorate or equivalent degree with a specialization in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, or a related field.
- Translational research experience in a relevant clinical setting, specifically translating AI models from research to clinical workflows, is advantageous.
- Experience in building and validating AI models, specifically for medical imaging.
- Strong understanding of data curation, labeling, and validation processes.
- Proven track record of conducting and publishing research in medical or AI journals.
- Experience collaborating with academic institutions on research projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, preferably in AI or healthcare technology.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
- Willingness to travel once every six weeks for team off-sites.
Success Metrics:
- Successful integration of AI models into clinical practice resulting in clinical evidence for new use cases.
- Improvement in patient outcomes and clinical efficiency as measured by specific KPIs.
- Publication of research in top-tier journals.
