About You:

We are looking for someone who is naturally curious, self-motivated, and highly logical, with a strong attention to detail. This individual is action-oriented, focused on creating meaningful impact, and dedicated to developing systematic data solutions rather than relying on ad hoc analyses or dashboards tailored to narrowly defined metrics. They excel at independently translating complex business questions into well-structured projects and technical requirements, conducting comprehensive data analyses, and delivering clear, concise summaries for executive audiences. With exceptional business intuition, they have the ability to generate and test hypotheses independently. This person also maintains a big-picture perspective, using sound judgment to prioritize tasks based on their overall business impact.

What You'll Do:

Hippo is solving complex engineering, data, regulatory and operational problems that have immediate impact on this antiquated industry. We're looking for a talented Senior Business Intelligence Engineer who is excited to tackle large cross-functional problems and make their mark on how the company uses data for decision-making capabilities as well as how we report data for compliance purposes. This tenacious analytics professional will take ownership over how business teams view data, focusing on supercharging analytics capabilities, and optimizing consumer experience of our data warehouse. An ideal candidate brings constant curiosity, a passion for communicating through data, and the ability to align a diverse set of stakeholders around KPIs and metrics definitions. This person will:

  • Own the reporting and analytics presentation layer of the data warehouse and Tableau for a set of business domains with well aligned and defined KPIs for single source of truth metric tracking
  • Support internal and external stakeholders ensuring all new products have proper data measurement capabilities by collaborating with business, product, engineering, and data engineering
  • Democratize data insights by building self-service analytical capabilities
  • Drive data best practices by giving inputs on technical designs, providing peer reviews, and championing analytics best practices, data security, and optimized code performance

Must Haves:

  • 5+ years of industry experience in an Analytics/BI Engineering role (or 4+ years with advanced degree)
  • Degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, or another quantitative field
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, and data visualization
  • Hands-on experience with data pipelines and ETLs and committing thoroughly tested code
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to independently deliver end-to-end projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to present complex findings to non-technical audiences

Nice to Have:

  • Strong proficiency in Tableau
  • Working knowledge in Python
  • Prior experience with finance and accounting data or data pertaining to risk management
