Job description:

As a Director of the Cell Biology team, you will be part of a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary team, and will be responsible for the development of novel Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADCs), contributing to the advancement of groundbreaking therapeutic interventions. Your expertise in cancer biology, cell-based assays, and Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs) will be essential to our mission of developing the next generation of medicines for human diseases. You will have the opportunity to set direction for and oversee the execution of ADC target validation and evaluation of payload strategies to advance innovative ADCs. We are seeking innovative team members inspired by our mission to work collaboratively in building the next-generation drug company. Candidates should demonstrate leadership, a passion for science, excellent communication skills, and strong collaborative skills to advance ADC projects forward.

The role is expected to be a mix of management, mentorship and laboratory work. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor and grow a team of high-performing cell biologists for ADC development 
  • Oversee the design and execution of efficient in vitro experiments and in vivo studies to evaluate new ADCs with the goal of advancing candidate therapeutics 
  • Provide ADC biology expertise including strategic, scientific and technical guidance for the company to build a robust pipeline of novel ADCs 
  • Oversee the generation and analysis of experimental data to guide go/no-go decision-making processes
  • Effectively communicate findings and interpretation of results to multi-disciplinary teams
  • Build valuable relationships with consultants, advisors, and collaborators
  • May recruit junior scientists and research associates 
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and scientific advancements for characterization of ADCs
  • Comply with company health and safety policies and general laboratory practices

Requirements:

  • PhD in Biology or related discipline with 8+ years of industrial experience.
  • Expertise with antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) 
  • Experience running and/or overseeing in vitro studies to evaluate human tumor cell function (e.g., cell culture, high-content imaging, and potency assays in primary and cell line cultures)
  • Understanding of tumor cancer models to evaluate ADCs 
  • Strong desire to continue seeking new technological innovations 
  • Management or mentorship experience in guiding a team of scientists in goal setting ensuring deliverables against timelines 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to propose innovative solutions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
  • Evidence of scientific excellence and impact as illustrated by scientific publications and presentations.
  • Initiative and boldness to dive into a fast-paced new startup

Additional Information:

The salary range is dependent on the level of Scientist that is hired (Principal Scientist or Director). The salary range for this full-time position is $190,000 to $250,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across California locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
