What is special about this role?

The Senior CloudOps Engineer is responsible for the development and operations of the Cloud infrastructure at Helix. This role encompasses design, coding/scripting, infrastructure management and systems administration to ensure that applications and services meet uptime and availability targets. Additionally, the role will help develop and support cloud disaster recovery concepts, testing, and related initiatives.This Senior Cloud Operations (CloudOps) Engineer is responsible for all aspects of our AWS environment as well as Helix software deployment CI/CD pipeline; including design, provisioning, monitoring, automation, and maintenance of our software suite. The selectee will work cross-functionally with some of the best minds in biotech, genomics, and cloud, using bleeding edge cloud technologies in order to empower every person to improve their life through DNA.

As a Senior CloudOps Engineer, you will:

  • Design and develop new automation solutions to Cloud  infrastructure engineering problems.
  • Extend patterns for Automating cloud infrastructure using AWS CDK/ Terraform.
  • Collaborate with product managers, scientists, and other engineers to implement required infrastructure, continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and monitoring.
  • Work closely with application developers and participate in the architectural discussions.
  • Advocate a DevOps culture of automation, self-service, and engineering best practices to enable development teams.
  • Build and maintain observability tooling, metrics, and dash-boarding for purposes of detecting and surfacing customer-specific performance bottlenecks.
  • Work closely with the Security team to ensure the applications and solutions designed and deployed are secure and compliant.

About you:

  • 5 + years of development experience in go, python, typescript, or a similar language.
  • Familiarity with Linux system administration, including bash or other shell scripting.
  • Experience using public cloud platforms - AWS, GCP, Azure.
  • Experience using infrastructure-as-code frameworks (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation, etc.)
  • Affinity for an engineering culture that emphasizes Agile, DevOps, and continuous delivery

Pluses:

  • Bachelor/Master of Science in Computer Science
  • Hands-on experience with full-stack development (UI, API, Database)
  • Familiarity with regulated software systems (HIPAA, FDA, etc.)
