Position Summary

As part of Harlem Link's 2020-21 COVID-19 Reopening Plan, the school operates a series of classrooms as on-campus care centers for Remote Learning.  In these classrooms, students continue their Remote Learning schedule while in the school building.  Some students are on campus five days per week, every week, due to their family's needs or status as essential workers; others are on campus Monday through Thursday alternating weeks ("Week A" and "Week B" cohorts).  These classrooms operate in advance of the school's Blended Learning Plan for an unspecified length of time, which is dependent on parent demand and city-wide safety data. 


The Learning Support Provider position is a temporary, part-time position reporting to the Childcare Administrator and additional school administrative team members.  The Childcare Administrator is a rotating position of school administrators who are the on-site liaison for the Principal and School Management Team.


There are two shifts for Learning Support Provider, with overlapping but distinct responsibilities.  The morning shift runs 7:30 am to 12:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and the afternoon shift runs from 11:45 am to 4:15 pm Monday through Thursday.  Each person filling the role will either serve in the morning shift or the afternoon shift.

Outcomes and Responsibilities

Outcome 1: All students are safe and well cared for in the classroom.

Tasks related to this outcome include:

  • Serve as the “adult face of the classroom” for assigned students
  • Teach and reinforce routines for PPE, social distancing and sanitizing
  • Ensure the classroom is organized and set up for safety with regard to materials, air circulation and masks
  • Review, understand and carefully read updates to the school's and the NYC DOE's coronavirus mitigation and safety plan
  • Understand and follow Harlem Link's basic approach to working with students, including the school's Core Values, Beliefs and Responsive Classroom practices
  • Take attendance daily and help students clean up after breakfast, lunch and snacks
  • Provide snack once per morning and once per afternoon
  • Provide student mask and movement breaks, using appropriate social distancing, on a regular basis
  • Follow routines and school expectations for providing lunch and (indoor and outdoor) recess safely and in accordance with social distancing and sanitizing safety procedures (afternoon shift only)

Outcome 2: All students are able to access their remote learning schedules while on campus

Tasks related to this outcome include:

  • Review student remote schedules daily, including intervention sessions and paraprofessional support
  • Complete daily checklist of activities to ensure students are set up and organized
  • Support students in utilizing accounts and passwords, including but not limited to SeeSaw, Google Classroom, Zearn, Lexia Core5, Epic and Google Meet 
  • Learn about and support students in completing requirements for work submission in the major subject areas each day
  • Keep track of student intervention sessions (for English as a New Language, Academic Intervention Services, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Physical Therapy, Special Education Teacher Support Services and Counseling) and provide extra help for students to access these services at the appointed times

Outcome 3: All Harlem Link staff members are part of a coherent and effective learning community

Tasks related to this outcome include:

  • Communicate objectively, respectfully and clearly with staff colleagues using prescribed methods and channels
  • Understand and follow basic Harlem Link staff professionalism responsibilities, in areas including consistency of attendance, promptness, communication with supervisor, dress code and focus


  • A passionate belief in Harlem Link’s mission, values, educational model and Beliefs
  • Commitment to COVID-19 mitigation and safety precautions, inside and outside of school, including willingness to be tested prior to starting and every two weeks while employed
  • Experience working with children 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and attention to detail
  • Fluency with basic use of Chromebooks and online account management
  • High school diploma or GED preferred

Role Time Frame and Details

  • Staff members serve a morning or an afternoon shift, taking lunch before or after their shift, and working remotely the other part of the day
    • Shift 1 is 7:30 am to 12:00 pm
    • Shift 2 is 11:45 am to 4:15 pm
  • Staff members receive one 15 minute break throughout their shift
  • Compensation includes a $50 stipend per half-day shift worked in addition to $15 per hour base pay
