Hammerhead sits at the intersection of technology and athletics and we began by identifying a contradiction in cycling tech: its digital technology is decades behind its material technology. The bikes used at the highest end of the sport are at the absolute pinnacle of material science, while cycling computers, on the other hand, are generationally behind other consumer technologies. In the Karoo 2 we are building software and hardware that is cutting edge and original, rather than derivative, bringing the digital revolution to the bike, and completely altering the in ride experience. Our mission is to unlock people’s athletic potential. We are driven by a belief that athletics broadly, and cycling in particular, have profound power to improve both individuals and society.

A pre-existing passion for athletics in general and cycling in particular is a huge plus. 

 

Role

Initially reporting to the Vice President of Software and based primarily out of our Pheonixville hub (post-CoViD), theDevOps Engineer is a specialized member of an exceptional cross-functional Agile team. The overall team delivers new features and non-functional improvements to our cycling computer solution. The DevOps Engineer specializes in operational and process improvements in support of rapid iterative delivery of software features. A successful candidate for this role is expected to work effectively in a number of the following areas with an interest and aptitude to grow quickly in areas not yet mastered.

  • AWS or other cloud environments and facilities
  • CI/CD tools like Jenkins
  • Docker and or related technologies
  • Git and build automation
  • A career background, coming from the software development discipline (rather than the sysops or operational discipline)

 

What You’ll Do

Offload and speed the operational delivery and deployment of our cycling computer system by

  • Working independently and with software developers on AWS-based deployments and the automated mechanisms needed to make those reliable, repeatable and efficient
  • Take a significant ownership of our Jenkins Build Infrastructure
  • Monitor deployed systems for up-time
  • Efficiently and consistently delivering delivery output that exceeds velocity achieved by an average DevOp.

 

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in CS or similar.
  • Background as a software engineer (rather than coming from the Operations side)
  • 2 or more years of experience working with the primary facilities of AWS 
  • At least basic sills around networking, routing, and VPN 
  • Some experience with Analytics around solution monitoring
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD, and containers

Nice to Have

  • Ideally familiar with Agile/Scrum process including use of supporting tools like Asana and Atlassian tools (Jira and Confluence).
  • Would be helpful to be active in or have a background in cycling or endurance athletics.
  • Experience working in a shop producing a consumer electronics product.
