THE OPPORTUNITY

We are hiring a Director Data Scientist for our GenAI team in Portugal!


Our GenAI team leverages advanced AI technologies to personalize user experiences, streamline operations, and optimize resources, acting as a hub for innovation while enabling Wellhub to harness the full potential of generative AI across multiple domains.

We are looking for a talented and motivated Director Data Scientist to join us and contribute to groundbreaking projects in the field of Generative AI. 

YOUR IMPACT

As the Data Science Director specializing in Generative AI, you will spearhead the strategy, development, and deployment of AI models that can generate content, solutions, and insights across various domains. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of data scientists and domain experts, guiding them to create innovative AI applications that solve real-world problems and push the boundaries of what AI can achieve.

  • Strategic Leadership: Define the vision and strategic roadmap for the GenAI data science team, aligning projects with business objectives and ensuring the delivery of high-impact AI solutions.
  • Model Development Oversight: Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of generative models using advanced machine learning and deep learning techniques, including GANs, VAEs, autoregressive models, and transformers. Provide technical guidance to the team to ensure best practices in model development.
  • Innovation and Research: Drive research initiatives to stay at the forefront of generative AI, fostering a culture of innovation. Evaluate and integrate the latest advancements in the field to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Partner with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, and operations, to integrate generative models into products and services. Ensure that AI solutions meet business goals and user needs.
  • Team Development and Mentorship: Build and mentor a high-performing data science team. Provide career development opportunities, technical training, and foster a collaborative environment.
  • Model Fine-Tuning and Optimization: Oversee the fine-tuning of pre-trained models to adapt to specific use cases and requirements, ensuring optimal performance. Guide the team in data annotation, preprocessing, and customization of models for various applications.
  • Prompt Engineering and Evaluation: Guide the development and refinement of prompts to enhance the performance and output quality of generative models. Establish and oversee rigorous testing and evaluation frameworks to assess model performance, robustness, and reliability.
  • Deployment and Scalability: Collaborate with engineering leaders to ensure the scalable and efficient deployment of models in production environments. Drive the adoption of best practices in ML Ops and model lifecycle management.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Ensure comprehensive documentation of models, algorithms, experiments, and processes to support reproducibility and foster a culture of knowledge sharing within the team and organization.
  • Leadership:
    • Lead a team of highly autonomous, proactive and motivated data scientists.
    • Periodically monitor and own your team’s health, while promoting a highly psychologically safe environment which welcomes ideas and different points of view.
    • Drive critical projects from the architectural design to implementation.
    • Plan and successfully deliver cross team projects.
    • Provide estimates on efforts and risks, evaluating technical feasibility on cross-functional high-impact projects.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Advanced Degree: Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience in Python and machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar. Deep knowledge of generative models, including GANs, VAEs, autoregressive models, and transformers.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience leading data science teams, with a track record of delivering high-impact AI solutions in production environments.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on strategic planning, experimental design, and data analysis. Ability to align technical efforts with business objectives.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • The following are preferred qualifications:
    • Expertise in model fine-tuning, hyperparameter optimization, and deployment.
    • Proven track record of developing and deploying generative AI models in production environments.
    • Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP) and/or computer vision applications.
    • Experience with vector databases for handling high-dimensional data.
