About the Role:

The Communications Platform Product Manager will lead a high-performing team focused on developing and enhancing our customer communications. In this role, you will lead the strategy, roadmap, and execution of key initiatives that drive the effectiveness and scalability of our communication platform. This role reports into Gusto’s Application Platform group and plays a key role in driving customer awareness and actions to successfully run their business on Gusto.

About the Team:

In this role, you will collaborate closely with Engineering, Design, Marketing, and other cross-functional partners to deliver and scale innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of our users and stakeholders. You will deliver direct-to-customer solutions, as well as internal-facing platform APIs that enable other product teams at Gusto to deliver the right message to the right person at the right time through the right channel, and do so at scale.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Develop a deep understanding of effective communications to advance a platform that meets the needs of the multiple personas that Gusto serves.
  • Set goals and strategy for your domain, then translate it into a roadmap, milestones, and requirements based on business impact, customer needs, and technical feasibility.
  • Set, track, and improve key product and business metrics.
  • Conduct user research, gather feedback, and analyze data across domains to inform product decisions that impact the user experience across Gusto’s products.
  • Drive the product development process from concept to launch, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products that delight customers and result in significant and measurable business impact.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 5+ years of product management experience driving platforms and systems, including experience leading communication platforms or products that involve messaging, notifications, or real-time communications.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading complex projects from concept to launch.
  • Expertise in identifying and understanding patterns across interconnected systems.
  • Strong data literacy and the ability to derive data-driven insights that guide strategic decision-making.
  • Strength in finding clarity in ambiguous situations to make informed and well-reasoned decisions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $153,000/yr to $191,000yr in Denver & most major metro locations, and $186,000/yr to $230,000/yr for San Francisco, New York, & Seattle. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.


Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. 

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
