Gusto is looking for passionate both managers and senior leaders across our Engineering team to help us grow and scale our People Platform for small businesses. As an Engineering Leader, you’ll lead and grow a team of engineers and work closely with design, product management, operations, and data science teams to own and drive the team’s vision, strategy and execute on the product roadmap.

Embedded Payroll: Gusto Embedded Payroll is the newest segment in Gusto. Our mission is to enable any developer to build and service payroll from their application. This team is responsible for building out the APIs, UI components, developer toolkits, and integration experiences that culminates in our Embedded Payroll product. So far, partners have been highly receptive to our product. We believe that if we fulfill our mission, we will be able to see major strides in innovation at the intersection of fintech and labor. We operate like a startup within the larger Gusto organization with our own sales, marketing, support, and EPD team. We're looking to not just build a product, but build a thriving company within Gusto.
Growth: Gusto’s Growth team works across the entire organization to drive improvements to Gusto.com’s websites with regards to performance, optimization, and SEO to bring more visitors and customer leads to our websites
Help Journey: Help Journey is responsible for creating and driving Gusto’s help experience strategy. Exceptional customer service is one of Gusto’s key strategic differentiators and critical for growth. In this role, you will get to partner with numerous stakeholders across the organization to build a world class in-app help experience to make complex jobs for our customers seem extremely simple.
Mobile: Two mobile teams are hiring!
Core Business Mobile Strategy: this team will create & execute on a mobile strategy that will bring mobile-first product solutions to key customer pain points, helping us serve them better and extend our product reach. This team is a part of the broader Core Business organization, which is at the heart of Gusto’s business.
Consumer Wallet Experience: this team sits at the crossroads of an employee's work and their financial life, providing tools that help them get paid, and a platform to manage their money. This leader is responsible for both the core native (iOS & Android) as well as web experiences for Gusto Wallet. Part of the broader Members organization (consumer business unit), this team is at the cutting edge of developing tools that help our Members thrive in their work, life and financial journeys.
Here’s what you’ll do day to day:
- Hire, lead and grow a team of diverse engineering talent
- Build and foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performance culture
- Collaborate with our data science, operations, product management and design teams to lead and own developing end to end product experiences for complex customer needs from initial planning, execution, to final delivery
- Work closely with Leadership to help set priorities for both short term and long term roadmaps
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- 2+ years of engineering people leadership experience
- 5+ years of hands-on programming experience
- Experience in empowering and nurturing technical teams of 5-10 engineers
- Experience in managing and resolving complex product development issues -- we use Rails & React, but you don’t have to know them
- Experience in leading large scope cross-functional projects and driving business growth
- Self-driven mindset, and the ability to work on greenfield projects
- Passionate about creating memorable experiences for customers

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $160,000-$220,000 in Denver & most remote locations, and $200,000-$260,000 for San Francisco & New York. We have multiple roles open at different levels, so final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
