About the Team

The Corp Dev team is a small but highly leveraged team responsible for looking over the strategic horizon and accelerating Gusto’s roadmap with M&A and investments.  As part of the team, you will be empowered by the Chief Strategy Officer and help build corporate development into a superpower at Gusto.  Gusto acquired its first three companies in 2021 (Ardius, Symmetry and RemoteTeam) and has the mandate to keep accelerating.

Here’s what you'll do:

  • M&A strategy.  Partner with product leaders & executives to refine product strategy and roadmaps, assess build / buy / partner pathways and craft Gusto’s M&A strategy in support.
  • Strategic monitoring.  Assess strategic trends and monitor industry developments, startup activity and the competitive landscape.
  • Deal pipeline.  Establish industry relationships to help target identification and deal sourcing.
  • Deal execution.  Drive the deal process, including coordination with cross-functional teams and external advisors.
  • Build a team.  Recruit, empower and develop a world class team.

Here's what we're looking for: 

  • Experience.  10+ years of relevant work experience in investment banking, VC or private equity as well as corporate development at a high growth tech company.  
  • Deal leadership.  Ability to run deals end-to-end, from sourcing to negotiating docs, with excellence.
  • Product-minded.  Strong product intuition and ability to engage with product & engineering leaders on product strategy.
  • Technical skills.  Outstanding financial modeling and analytical skills paired with solid critical thinking and business judgment.
  • Soft skills.  Ability to listen deeply, communicate effectively and influence others.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $205,000 to $252,000 per year for San Francisco & New York and $174,000 to $219,000 per year in Denver & most remote locations. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
