Guidepost is seeking a Substitute Director of Schools for our NYC campuses

Guidepost Montessori is a community of educators who are driven by a deep desire to bring about widespread change in education today. To meet the needs of today's students and to bring about true progress in the world around us, we need an education model that fosters independence and develops competent, capable, action-oriented thinkers and change agents.

Our New York locations have unique requirements for Director Qualifications. Because of that, we’re looking for folks who meet these requirements to be part of our team, as an Independent Contractor role (Substitute Director). Our expectation is that you’ll be part of a broader team supporting a campus, so we are open to exploring flexible employment arrangements. If you’re excited about being part of our community of schools and dedicated individuals that are enabling widespread change in education, this role is for you.

We are offering:

  • An opportunity to do high-impact, mission-driven work in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment
  • A network of supportive peers and mentors who regularly share best practices, push you to achieve your best, and help you grow
  • Competitive compensation (between $40 and $60 per hour) based on experience
  • Generous tuition discount for two children at any school within our network (we serve children 3 months through 12th grade)

We'd love to talk to you if you:

  • Meet the requirements for an Article 43 school and hold a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education or related field of study
  • Meet the requirements for an Article 47 school and hold a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field of study
  • Have a resume indicating at least two years of lead teacher experience in a program for children less than six years of age
  • Hold a copy of a NY teaching license or certificate valid for services in the early childhood or childhood grades

We'd really love to talk to you if you have:

  • Experience in early childhood leadership education as an Admissions, Administrative, Program or School Director
  • 5+ years professional experience in education
  • Familiarity with the Montessori method of education or a Montessori certification a plus

Expectations:

  • To be “on-call” for a variety of campuses across the NYC market
  • Acknowledge calls at any time Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., usually with short notice
  • Respond to emergency situations, call offs, unexpected visits, vacations, leaves of absence and more
  • Available to work or make official visits at any time within that timeframe when called in the NYC market
  • Conduct in a professional, collaborative way at the specific location when called upon
  • May need to remain at or near the location for a period during the days and hours listed above

Who we are:

Changing the world is in our DNA. Our organization was founded to do just that—a group of educators and likeminded individuals had caught a glimpse of what could be possible in education and wanted to bring it to the world. Education today is filled with false alternatives. We disrupt them all. Our vision is a school where children plumb the depths of human knowledge and aspire to the height of intellectualism—and do it all at their own self-direction. Do you believe that there is critical, life-shaping knowledge that children desperately need—but also believe that they need to be in the driver’s seat when they pursue it? Then Guidepost is the place for you.

Guidepost Montessori and the Academy of Thought and Industry are projects of Higher Ground Education. You can learn more about our mission by visiting http://tohigherground.com/

Because we are a private, for-profit organization, this role does not require fundraising nor managing a Board of Directors!

Higher Ground Education, Guidepost Montessori, and Academy of Thought and Industry are committed to a policy of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO). We will not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, race, color, creed, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, alienage or citizenship, disability, marital status, military or veteran status, or any other legally recognized protected basis under applicable federal, state or local laws, regulations or ordinances. Our leadership is dedicated to ensuring the fulfillment of this policy. When requested, we are committed to reasonably accommodate employees and applicants with disabilities or special needs that may require an accommodation.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor required by law to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We are also required to measure our progress toward having at least 7% of our workforce be individuals with disabilities. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had a disability. Because a person may become disabled at any time, we ask all of our employees to update their information at least every five years.

Identifying yourself as an individual with a disability is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer will be maintained confidentially and not be seen by selecting officials or anyone else involved in making personnel decisions. Completing the form will not negatively impact you in any way, regardless of whether you have self-identified in the past. For more information about this form or the equal employment obligations of federal contractors under Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.

How do you know if you have a disability?
