The Role

This Maintenance Supervisor role will report into the Maintenance Manager and prepare business related analyses and research for local procurement activities, management of materials, and cost out activities for our cultivation and production facility located in Centreville, MD. The individual will focus on activities related to the purchasing of maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) supplies for the site. 

Responsibilities

Purchasing: 

  • Determines type and specifications of part(s) to be ordered- always sourcing for quality and cost. 
  • Researches and negotiates with suppliers to obtain prices and specifications. 
  • Research to identify parts that can’t be identified through standard vendor or that are obsolete. 
  • Research new vendors and contractors 
  • Prepares, reviews and tracks purchase orders through the purchasing process. Inputs all changes into the purchasing system, including inventory purchase orders, price changes and system updates.
  • Prepares and files all purchasing related documentation.
  • Interacts with vendors for quotations, and to follow up purchases. 

Inventory Management: 

  • Maintains parts inventory by keeping records of material, equipment, parts, or supplies received and issued. Inventories parts and stockroom periodically. Research discrepancies to locate missing parts and order replacements as needed. 
  • Orders, receives (checks in) and issues (checks out) material, equipment, parts, or supplies into computer database. Compares invoices against requisitions to verify quality and quantity of merchandise received. Transfers or requests parts between departments as requested. 
  • Prepares and maintains manual or computerized record systems providing detailed parts information such as complete description, quantities, operational characteristics, functions, and specifications. Prepares and updates parts catalogs, manuals, and related documentation and reports. 

Administrative: 

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities for small department in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include, where applicable, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 
  • Occasionally assemble parts and supplies, such as fans, furniture, etc. 
  • Performs work responsibilities as back-up for the Maintenance Manager, as needed. 
  • Prepare packages, such as returnable parts, to be tracked and shipped out on our trucks or other designated mail/freight carriers such as UPS, etc.
  • Prepares and completes reports as needed or required. 

Communications: 

  • Effectively communicates major milestones (written or oral), priorities, bottlenecks, and other major problems, across audiences at all levels of the organization. 
  • Collaborates and communicates with department and Engineering Team members cross-functionally and across organizations in support of a variety of objectives. 
  • Engages maintenance manager/maintenance staff and others to identify problems, malfunctions or to propose solutions with regards to equipment and parts. 
  • Confers with management and staff regarding safety procedures, equipment, and supplies. 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of equipment and machinery in operations in order to serve as a resource to team members for preventive maintenance guidelines as well as unanticipated machinery breakdowns.
  • Occasionally supervise hourly maintenance personnel
  • Solve and participate to implement long term solutions to maintenance reliability issues
  • Track maintenance personnel performance and workloads, investigate performance issues, and outline cases of disciplinary action as required
  • Coordinates and interacts with outside vendors to support business needs and objectives, including unsatisfactory quality or service items
  • Work with suppliers to upgrade or improve existing equipment; test new technology
  • Prepares and distribute monthly metric reports
  • Help determine training needs of maintenance employees; help facilitate set up and schedule of training as necessary
  • Conduct regular meetings with employees to discuss safety, quality, projects, and communicate initiatives

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED required. 
  • 5+ years related experience in a Manufacturing/Production environment is a plus, particularly in Maintenance. 
  • Microsoft Office beginner experience required; intermediate skills preferred. 
  • Experience with CMMS system required, eMaint preferred.
  • Requires knowledge of plant equipment and repair tools.
  • Requires working knowledge to use measuring tools (ruler, micrometer, calipers, etc.) to assist in the parts ordering process.
  • Written communication skills to accurately maintain records, timelines, and status reports.
  • Proficient time management skills to concentrate efforts on most important priorities and manage a broad range of activities.
  • Solid communication skills to effectively work with a broad spectrum of team members.
  • Demonstrated success in attention to detail. 

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass any and all required background checks
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry
  • Must possess valid driver’s license
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Must be approved by state badging agency to work in cannabis industry

Work Conditions

  • Works in areas requiring exposure to varying temperatures, heat or cold, and/or wet, damp, or drafty conditions
  • Works at heights, including on roofs, on scaffolding, up ladders, or in ceiling spaces
  • Moves over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces
  • Work overnight, weekends, and varying shifts
  • Move through narrow, enclosed, or elevated spaces
  • Work outdoors for extended periods of time
  • Moves, lifts, carries, and places merchandise and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance
