The Role

The purpose of this position is to assist the Analytical Chemist with a variety of laboratory activities and operations including sample preparations, testing, and analysis, based on approved methods using an assortment of analytical techniques, equipment, and instrumentation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares media, reagents, and stains. Computes and measures quantity.
  • Ensures orderly and environmentally correct storage of media, reagents, supplies, samples, and equipment.
  • Ensures technically correct cleaning, sterilization, and solvent treatment of equipment.
  • Conducts laboratory tests and analyses.
  • Operates and maintains various laboratory equipment.
  • Requisitions, inspects, and distributes laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Records information on manual/computerized records, logs and related requests for analysis, shipping/transporting samples, ordering supplies/equipment, and status of water supply system.
  • Packs and ships, picks up or delivers supplies, samples, and equipment.
  • Must follow all applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines. This includes the safe and proper operation of any/all applicable machinery, instrumentation, and equipment.
  • Understand and meet daily goals.
  • Work as part of a team to meet analytical schedules.
  • Employee may also be responsible for monitoring production line and collecting samples for analysis.
  • Follow SOP and standard analytical procedures to meet Good Laboratory Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices compliance.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written, with co-workers and management.
  • Practice good housekeeping habits throughout the facility with focus and personal contributions towards a clean and organized assigned work area at the end of the assigned shift.
  • Capable of working with hazardous chemicals and able to identify and report unsafe equipment, conditions, and practices so that they may be corrected prior to an incident.
  • Flexibility and the ability to shift work schedule according to production needs.
  • Work is performed with supervision from a technical superior.
  • Performs routine, specific laboratory activities in accordance with established laboratory practices and procedures
  • Conducts a variety of standardized tests and analyses in accordance with established methods and procedures while ensuring quality control and time constraints are met.
  • Ensures time critical and technically correct sample/specimen preparation and testing.
  • Operates and maintains increasingly complex equipment.
  • Prepares and performs quality control checks.
  • Records sample/specimen/test information such as test results, type of test, observations, and laboratory activities.
  • Expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect product safety, product quality or personnel safety.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
    • May make decisions and perform the job responsibilities of the Analytical Chemist in their absence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all employees
  • Basic to intermediate math skills
  • Familiarity with OSHA guidelines for dealing with hazardous chemicals
  • Understanding & adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the industry, safety regulations, local municipal codes and organizational rules, regulations, directives and standard operating procedures
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software including word processing, database management, spreadsheet applications and email
  • Knowledge of laboratory best practices

Additional Requirements

  • Illinois driver’s license or State ID card.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must pass all required background checks.
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal & company regulations for working in the industry.
  • Must be approved by the D.O.A. to receive & maintain an Agent badge

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Experience as a Laboratory Technician
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or physics
  • Intermediate level Laboratory experience
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered, including internal experience

Working Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform grasping, reaching, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Physical demands – May be required to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 50 pounds (200 pounds with assistance).
  • Work involves daily exposure to allergens (such as cannabis, tree nuts, and coconut oil).
