Great Oaks Legacy Charter School Overview

The Great Oaks Legacy Charter School is a high-performing, innovative charter public school in Newark NJ, serving students from Pre-K to 12th grade on campuses across the city of Newark. Our mission is to prepare Newark’s students for success in college and beyond. Currently, the historical college matriculation rate for GOLCS is 79% - nearly twice the national average for economically underrepresented students.

We accomplish our mission by:

  • Cultivating an environment where all students and staff are known and valued and are provided the support and compassion they need to be successful.
  • Delivering individualized academic support to our students daily, through tutoring provided by AmeriCorps Education Fellowship program.
  • Pairing rigorous curriculum and teaching with intense personal support and high academic expectations for students. Our students, for example, are encouraged to take multiple AP classes before they graduate high school. Our alumni receive intensive support from our college counseling team, while in college.


The HR/Recruitment Associate Role Description

The HR/Recruitment Associate is an integral member of the Talent & Finance team and actively contributes to making Great Oaks Legacy a great place to work.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides information by answering communications; referring special communications to the appropriate person.
  • Maintains human resources records by maintaining applications, résumés, and applicant logs.
  • Verify candidates' background by contacting references.
  • On-boards new employees by issuing forms and applications; verifying completion.
  • Helps employees by explaining benefit programs.
  • Avoids legal challenges by complying with legal requirements.
  • Maintains manager and employee confidence by keeping human resources information confidential.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes human resources and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Supporting with the sourcing, marketing, and recruitment of high quality staff members, including instructional and non-instructional staff members.
  • Acting as a primary point of contact for staff candidates throughout the hiring process, ensuring all candidates have a positive experience;
  • Guiding the candidate recruitment process at all stages, including, but not limited to resume screening, phone interviews, in-person interviews and/or demo lessons, school visits, reference checks, and final decisions.
  • Managing candidates through our applicant tracking system, including composing or editing job posts, conducting reporting and analytics, and ensuring broad-reaching outreach efforts.


May perform other duties related to recruiting and human resources as determined by the Chief People Officer or Executive Director.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required; Minimum of 1-2 years of recruiting or human resources experience preferred. Experience working in a charter school or educational setting strongly preferred.
  2. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  3. Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite of products, and ability to learn and use computer information systems adeptly.
  4. Ability to maintain confidential information.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  6. Successfully completes required criminal history proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status.
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and/ or acceptable.
