About the Great Oaks Foundation
The Great Oaks (GO) Foundation is a non-profit organization that brings its model of high dosage tutoring to schools from Maryland to Connecticut with the mission of preparing students for college success. The tutoring is provided by the Great Oaks Fellows, which is a selective cadre of recent college graduates who deliver at least two hours of individualized instruction to every student every day. This is a crucial strategy in Great Oaks schools to improve achievement and prepare teachers to work in our schools.
The Great Oaks Foundation has successfully replicated this program in Newark, NJ; Bridgeport, CT; New York, NY and Wilmington, DE. Additionally, we have begun partnering our Fellow program with several non-Great Oaks schools where we have begun sitting residents as well. A select group of the Fellows are enrolled in a Teacher Residency program that is being conducted in partnership with NYU’s Online Teacher Residency Program and Relay Graduate School of Education.
As Great Oaks prepares for expansion, we have continued to refine both our school and high-dosage tutoring model for greater impact. Key components of this process include designing the Great Oaks High school and refining the Fellowship model.

The Great Oaks Foundation Data Analyst, Education Data Systems & Strategy will support the Great Oaks Network in developing, implementing, managing, and supporting student and staff data and information systems as well as integrated digital learning products used in the classroom. Reporting to the Senior National Director of Data Systems & Strategy, the Data Analyst will work in close partnership with the Deputy Director of Data Systems & Strategy, as well as school-based Directors of Operations, Directors of Data, and instructional leaders. The Data Analyst will be an integral part of realizing our goal to develop an integrated data system that seamlessly and securely connects our educational data in order to generate powerful analytics and visuals so that educators at every level of the Great Oaks organization can make data-driven decisions to improve student outcomes. They will also be crucial in supporting schools with the various components of enabling distance learning through the COVID-19 pandemic and transitioning back to in-person learning.
The ideal Data Analyst candidate would excel in data coding, have strong analytical skills, and some knowledge of data engineering. The candidate is an excellent project manager with a grasp of data and digital technologies that are commonly used in K-12 education. This person is someone who will thrive being part of an entrepreneurial and growing team, is a leader who anticipates system and database needs and proactively takes action before issues arise, and has demonstrated success working in schools, strong knowledge of technology systems for curriculum and design and implementation and the passion to lead and support others in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Data Infrastructure Management: Engineering
- Assist with Ed-Fi ODS/BigQuery Data Systems Integration
- Manage all program integrations with SIS/LMS
- Build ETL pipelines for additional data sources not supported by managed data partners
- Writing SQL Queries
- Configuring, automating, and maintaining security of Data Portal(s) and affiliated Data Studio reports
- Data Validation in BigQuery (against primary source reports e.g. NWEA, eSchool/PowerSchool, etc)
Data Infrastructure Management: Program/Application Management
- Manage the network instances of Google Cloud Platform
- Own Clever Rostering & Clever Portal as well as rostering of all integrated programs (e.g. NWEA, MasteryConnect, etc)
- Maintain network-owned programs (TeachBoost, NWEA, MasteryConnect, etc.) to ensure data is integrated into system correctly
- Manage data output of HR and recruiting systems
In conjunction with the Deputy Director
- Support development of Great Oaks Fellows Impact Dashboard (measurement framework dashboard)
- Support with management of Data Product Lifecycle Development (Articulating questions, creating draft products, running focus groups, etc.)
- Support standing up of new infrastructure and reporting environment for partner sites
- Under direction of the Deputy Director, support with maintaining all visuals/reports in Great Oaks Data Portal including validation cycles
- Ensure all reports meet quality standards
- Support/lead professional development aimed at implementing Data Portal reports
In conjunction with the Deputy Director
- Analyze data to deliver insights to Academics Team/School Leadership
- Support ad hoc data requests (Help with spreadsheets, grade transfer, Board presentations, grants, etc.)
- Run monthly reports for schools to support with data validation & clean up
- Work alongside schools to correct any data errors surfaced by the Data Team
- Support with development and monitoring of Network-Wide metrics, ensuring measurement is feasible and sustained
Google Workspace Management:
- Project manage Google Workspace Audit Action Plan
- Onboarding/Offboarding Account management
- Develop & maintain user roles & permissions
- Device Management
- Provision & Authorize extensions/applications/etc.
- Create all standard operating procedures for Google Workspace management and User Guides
- Build a process for regularly managing and maintaining GoGuardian Admin web-filtering across school sites
- Manage requests from schools to whitelist websites for student use
- Collaborate with school operations and culture teams to address issues of misuse
Competencies and Qualifications
- Managing data pipelines, coding/scripting, validating, analyzing and visualizing data meaningfully for users
- Must have demonstrated experience working with SQL databases and programming (e.g. Python, ETL frameworks, Google Apps Scripts, etc.)
- Extra consideration granted to candidates with specific experience working with Google BigQuery
- Building and managing user-centered dashboard in digital visualization platforms such as Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, Google Data Studio, etc.
- Extra consideration granted to candidates with specific experience working with Google Data Studio
- Expert ability to analyze datasets using SQL, Excel and Google Sheets functions
- Making data and technology accessible to users
- Able to expertly problem solve technical challenges associated with data and technology systems in schools
- Expertise with core Google Apps, including Sheets, Slides, Docs and Drive is required. Experience managing Google Workspace Admin Console preferred
- Ability to problem solve technical challenges associated with data and technology systems
- Ability to quickly learn the basics of unfamiliar specialized systems and software platforms
- Managing complex projects
- Excellent organization and project management skills, ideally with technology-based products such as Asana
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once and effectively prioritize tasks to deliver results by given deadline
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with school leaders and school-based points of contact, as well as data and digital project partners and vendors
- Being a team player who does whatever it takes to provide optimal service
- Collaborative working style with a strong drive to learn and share knowledge
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with excellent attention to detail
- Excellent communicator with the ability to explain complex, technical ideas to a non-technical audience. Strong written and verbal skills required
- Ability to approach challenges as a systems thinker: a determined problem-solver with ability to create and innovate scalable solutions on the go, sometimes with limited time and resources
The successful candidate will also:
- Be efficient and organized
- Have a do-whatever-it-takes attitude including a willingness to work occasionally on the weekend or in the evening
- Possess an exceptional ability to respond well to feedback and implement it immediately
- Be comfortable with a dynamic, fast-paced environment of rapid change and evolvement
- Be willing to travel up to 25% of time to school and partner sites, contingent on current COVID safety policies
