Great Oaks Legacy is seeking an experience Math educator to join our team as a Network Director of Curriculum and Instruction – Middle School Math/STEM.

 

GREAT OAKS LEGACY OVERVIEW

The Great Oaks Legacy Charter School is a high-performing, innovative charter public school in Newark NJ, serving 1,700 students from Pre-K to 12th grade on campuses across the city. Our mission is to prepare public school students for success in college. Great Oaks Legacy students aspire to be some of the highest performing students in the country.

 

We have high academic and behavioral expectations for our students. Our students, for example, are encouraged to take multiple AP classes before they graduate. We pair rigorous curriculum and teaching with intense personal support from teachers, tutors, and staff. The school’s mission is to prepare our students for college success through several key elements:

 

  • Small school – Grade-level cohorts of less 100 students allow each student to feel known and cared for. Our focus is on a sense of community and relationship building with families and students

 

  • More time on task – Longer school days than traditional schools. Weekend sessions and summer school for students who are struggling.

 

  • High expectations – Rigorous, differentiated, college-preparatory coursework from K-12. Advanced Placement and real college courses for all juniors and seniors.

 

  • Effective Instruction – World-class teachers with clear expectations and the support they need to continuously improve.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Instructional Leader and Director Support

  • Participate in weekly co-observations with Directors and/or instructional leaders
  • Meet weekly or bi-weekly with Directors and/or instructional leaders to debrief about targeted campus Math/STEM eeds
  • Co-debrief with teachers based on needs of Director and/or instructional leader

 

Observations, Feedback, and Professional Development

  • Track informal observations in ED Reflect for campuses without an instructional leader
  • Participate in scheduled feedback sessions as required by the instructional leader and/or Director
  • Create schedules for Network Math/STEM PD in conjunction with CAO

 

Teacher Support

  • Facilitate new teacher PD workshops with support of STEM Instructional Leaders for middle school campuses.
  • Facilitate and/or identify workshops to support Math/STEM teachers based on targeted needs from weekly observations.
  • Conduct weekly and/or bi-weekly informal observations and coaching sessions for Math/STEM teachers based on need of campus and in conjunction with instructional leader and/or school Director

 

Curriculum Development

  • Lead analysis of standards, curricula and aligned assessments to develop and implement standards-based lesson and unit plans linked to year end goals.
  • Review and provide feedback on Math/STEM Curriculum at the end of each trimester or school year.
  • Monitor tracking of ANET, Unit Assessments, and other assessment data in appropriate portals.

 

Data Analysis

  • Analyze biweekly, trimester and monthly data reports in conjunction with instructional leaders and/or Directors.
  • Support teachers with the review of assessment data providing targeted and timely feedback that is results driven in conjunction with instructional leaders and/or Directors

 

Talent Management

  • Conduct content based Summer PD for the Math/STEM Department.
  • Conduct year-long PD sessions for STEM teachers and/or instructional leaders.
  • Support with the development of the SPED Math curriculum.
  • Co-Observe and provide targeted feedback to Math/STEM teachers.
  • Co-teach with Math/STEM teachers as needed.

 

Strategic Planning and Systems

  • Use data to monitor and assess student academic performance.
  • Anticipate and plan for a wide range of academic strategies and interventions based on analysis of individual student outcomes in conjunction with Directors and/or instructional leaders

 

Shared Vision and Culture

  • Be proactive, supportive & respond to challenging situations with families, students and staff members.
  • Ensure timely reporting periods for progress report cards, report cards and progress monitoring forms and conferences.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP & EVALUATION

 

The Network Director of Curriculum and Instruction – Math/STEM reports to the CAO and will receive informal daily or weekly feedback through observations and interactions, weekly check-ins, and formal evaluations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relentless commitment to the mission of Great Oaks Legacy Charter School and belief that every student has what it takes to be successful.
  • NJ or out of state equivalent Standard Teacher Certification, preferably in Math.
  • Supervisor Certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve academic growth in math and model a data driven instruction culture.
  • Curriculum planning, grade level, or department/instructional leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to develop and motivate teachers to provide strong instruction.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in an urban education setting, including 3+ years of teaching.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both verbal and written.
  • Successfully completes required criminal history proof of U.S citizenship or legal resident status.

 

EMPLOYMENT TERMS

 

The Network Director of Curriculum and Instruction – Math/STEM is a(n) 12-month employee with salary to be recommended by the Executive Director for approval by the board.
