Position Summary

GrayMatter Robotics is looking for a Software Engineering Lead who will deliver results for the business by building and managing our top engineering team.  As a Software Engineering Lead, you will be the architect, designer, and coder of the project. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to make the team's vision a reality. You'll have the opportunity to lead cross-team efforts, mentor your team members, and establish engineering best practices.  This role will report to the CTO. 


  • Lead day-to-day management of the software team including stand-ups and project prioritization
  • Work with the leadership team to ensure prioritization and focus on engineering deliverables and timelines in alignment with business objectives
  • Articulate high-level technical strategies and product vision; encourage and facilitate technical discussions, ensure deadlines are met, and drive the product forward
  • Provide technical leadership and drive best practices for code development, review, testing, and deployment that will ensure high-quality releases to production
  • Help resolve production and customers issues and engineer long-term solutions through triage and root cause analysis and data analytics
  • Develop highly reliable and available software systems
  • Develop and contribute to the software stack
  • Add comprehensive automated testing to ensure quality and development productivity
  • Maintain high standards of excellence and develop a high-performance engineering team
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Skills / Qualifications

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in software development for complex function-based software that interacts with sensor inputs, control loops, and redundancy
  • Experience in leading, mentoring, and developing mid-size software engineering teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with C++ and Python production-level coding
  • Developed and delivered complete software products that meet rigorous functional and safety-critical requirements
  • Experience in leading Agile (Scrum) development teams and tailoring processes to maximize team’s productivity and efficiency
  • BS or MS or higher in Computer Science or relevant engineering discipline
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive, with confidence and initiative for innovation
