Grammarly is excited to offer a remote-first hybrid working model. Team members work primarily remotely in the United States, Canada, Ukraine, Germany, or Poland. Certain roles have specific location requirements to facilitate collaboration at a particular Grammarly hub.

All roles have an in-person component: Conditions permitting, teams meet 2–4 weeks every quarter at one of Grammarly’s hubs in San Francisco, Kyiv, New York, Vancouver, and Berlin, or in a workspace in Kraków. This flexible approach gives team members the best of both worlds: plenty of focus time along with in-person collaboration that fosters trust and unlocks creativity.

Grammarly team members in this role must be based in Germany or Poland and they must be able to collaborate in person 2 weeks per quarter, traveling if necessary to the hub(s) where the team is based.

To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a talented Data Scientist to join our growth team. The perfect candidate will understand product development well and have proven experience helping businesses grow. They will also know how to find and use key strategic opportunities, be a supportive team member who can simply explain complex data, and work collaboratively to build ML solutions and drive growth. 

Data Scientists at Grammarly are trusted subject matter experts who uncover new insights to inform product and growth strategies. Our Data Scientists work with teams that build our core product features, demonstrate the value of our product to users, and empower people to use Grammarly everywhere they write. We have large datasets and are looking for folks with strong technical and analytical skills to break down complex business problems and provide solutions with high visibility and impact.

Your impact

As a Data Scientist, Growth, you will: 

  • Develop, monitor, and refine key metrics that track user acquisition, activation, retention, and churn. Analyze trends and patterns to uncover insights that drive growth strategies and initiatives.
  • Develop machine learning models to drive personalized user experiences. Utilize predictive analytics to tailor engagement strategies, enhancing satisfaction and retention across diverse user segments.
  • Work closely with the Marketing, Product, and Engineering teams to design, execute, and analyze A/B tests and other experiments. Use insights from these experiments to for user and small-business engagement strategies, optimizing the funnel from awareness to loyalty.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering to improve data collection and analysis methods focused on growth metrics. Ensure the data infrastructure supports scalable action for the growth of the user and small-business g insight.
  • Advocate for the use of data in all aspects of Growth strategies. Show how data-driven decisions can enhance user acquisition, conversion, and retention, contributing to overall business success.
  • Identify and leverage data-driven insights to uncover new opportunities for Grammarly’s growth. Focus on connecting more users and small businesses to Grammarly's value, directly contributing to the product's user base.

We’re looking for someone who

  • Is able to collaborate in person 2 weeks per quarter, traveling when necessary to the hub where the team is based.
  • Holds a PhD or master’s degree in a quantitative field preferred.
  • Has 6+ years of relevant work experience with a proven track record of applying data science methods that drive impact.
  • Is fluent in SQL with strong data exploration and manipulation skills.
  • Is proficient in Python, R, or similar programming language. Experience with machine learning and model-building is highly valued.
  • Has firm knowledge of experiment design, including translating business questions into experimental frameworks and measurement plans and choosing suitable statistical techniques for analysis.
  • Is proficient in conducting experiments and effectively communicating the results to stakeholders.
  • Has a self-starting growth mindset and strong communication skills, translating technical insights into impactful business recommendations.
  • Is a creative problem-solver who simplifies problems to their core elements.
