To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a seasoned Research Manager to join Grammarly’s Research team. We are our company’s core user-focused research function, including members in user research and market research. This role will be responsible for developing and building the practice of research in the Client-Apps domain.
The Client-Apps team develops the core product-interface experience for Grammarly across all mobile and desktop interfaces, covering products—such as Grammarly browser extension, Grammarly for Windows and Mac, the Grammarly Keyboard, the Grammarly iPhone Editor, and Grammarly for Safari on iPhone—and product partnerships with the Grammarly for Samsung Keyboard. With billions of users communicating across various platforms, this role will leverage and deepen our understanding and capabilities around communication to help inform and shape the future of Grammarly’s strategy and user experience. This role offers an opportunity to work on a broad range of go-to-market and early-stage product-development research initiatives, define research roadmaps and strategies, set the team up for success, and collaborate closely with the Product, Design, and Marketing teams on our products. As part of Grammarly’s growing Research team, this role will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to foster user-centered practices and deep customer understanding within the team.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest and background in leading and building research teams and who is excited about hiring and developing research talent to inform design, marketing, and product development. The ideal candidate has led research teams and managers and is interested in defining and developing research processes as the Research team scales. This position will report to the Head of Research.
Your impact
As the Research Manager, Client-Apps, you will have the opportunity to accelerate the organization’s learning of our core product offerings and define the direction of new language technologies to improve communication for professionals across industries. You will learn to shape and embed user insights in a product organization and partner closely with leaders in our Product, Design, and Marketing teams. You will also partner closely with research and design leadership to define and build the broader user-research practice at Grammarly.
In this role, you will:
- Be responsible for guiding the development and careers of your team members and working to help them realize their full potential.
- Define and develop the user-research practice within Grammarly, Client-Apps to help inform product strategy, capabilities, and product offerings.
- Develop talent and hiring strategy to create a strong Research team for our Grammarly, Client-Apps team.
- Advise and mentor researchers in developing research plans and methodological work with clearly stated goals and research questions.
- Lead the team in fostering a deep understanding of our customers to influence and shape our core Grammarly product offerings.
- Coach and mentor user researchers and market researchers in the design and execution of qualitative—such as ethnography, interviews, and focus groups—and quantitative research work, such as in-product feedback and survey analysis.
- Work with designers, product managers, engineers, and marketers to prioritize research opportunities in a fast-paced environment.
- Conduct research and leadership workshops to help ground decisions for product planning and strategic work.
- Advocate research findings to different audiences through written reports and verbal presentations.
- Identify and explore new opportunities through creative research methods and co-design sessions to help define product roadmaps, vision, and strategy.
We’re looking for someone who

- Is able to collaborate in person 4 weeks per quarter, traveling if necessary to the hub where the team is based.
- Has a minimum of 3 years of experience managing UX research teams.
- Has a minimum of 3 years of work experience in an applied research setting and/or product research and development.
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills, and effectively articulates their ideas, thoughts, and feedback.
- Is relentlessly focused on our customers’ needs and wants.
- Is proactive in seeking and providing opportunities to improve and expand the team, including enhancing team members’ personal skills and experiences.
- Has a comfortable working knowledge of statistics or an interest in the use of programming language for data manipulation and computational statistics.

Base pay may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We offer twenty days of paid time off per year (global), eleven days of paid holidays per year (US and Canada), and unlimited sick days (global).
