The Business Applications team at Grafana

  • The Business Applications team works together with our Cloud, Enterprise, and Grafana teams to provide the best possible experience for our customers and the most efficient workflow for our staff.
  • We build on the grafana.com platform to provide custom solutions and integrate with the many external systems that make up a modern business environment.
  • The team is responsible for critical domain areas that ensure the smooth functioning of not just our systems but also our business processes that they’re designed to solve. The team is composed of multiple squads with each focussing on one or more domain areas.
  • A few important areas we work on are maintaining the billing engine that’s responsible for calculating our customers’ usage, automating the provisioning process when a customer has signed a contract with Grafana, integrating with cloud provider marketplaces (AWS, Azure, and GCP) to allow our customers to subscribe to Grafana Cloud via their cloud provider, and maintaining the user portal our customers use to manage their account. Business Applications engineers specialize in one or more of the above domain areas.
  • We also are responsible for building and maintaining the Billing Experience for our customers that encompasses grafana billing dashboards and a cost management center for Grafana Cloud administrators to manage, control, and optimize their observability spend. Customers view an overview of expenses, pricing, usage numbers, download reports, and add attribution labels per product. The technical stack consists of Go, React, and our in-house libraries.

In this role you will

  • Take an active role in influencing our roadmap and your own career objectives
  • Drive projects from initial ideation all the way to operations once it is in the hands of stakeholders
  • Embrace our open-source culture and contribute to other projects that may not directly fall within your team’s scope
  • Help design, build, operate, and maintain our critical systems, owning the reliability, performance, and availability
  • Continuously make the existing code better by tackling tech debt, improving the CI/CD pipelines, and increasing test coverage
  • If required and applicable, be a part of your team’s on-call rotations and take ownership of the components and libraries you’re maintaining
  • Collaborate with the team and stakeholders over async (Slack, Google Docs) or over meetings

What we’re looking from you

  • You are comfortable working in a remote-first company; communication is key.
  • You are comfortable in a collaborative, friendly, kind, and respectful environment.
  • You value autonomy and enabling decisions over committees and red tape.
  • You work well within a team in an agile setup and you're driven to help others.
  • Although you can drive your work independently, you also know when to reach out for help.
  • You are not afraid to ask questions, look for support and guidance from your mentors and the senior engineers in the team.
  • You care deeply about user experience and the quality of the products that you work on.
  • You have interests in full-stack development and working in DevOps environments. Engineering teams at Grafana operate in a “you build it, you own it” team mindset.
  • You have experience with Javascript, HTML, NodeJS, React, or similar technologies.

Some nice to haves

  • You believe that automation/as-code is important for predictable and reproducible systems.
  • You have prior experience or interest in Kubernetes and using Cloud providers.

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
