G/O Media is the publisher of the web’s most original media brands, including Gizmodo, Kotaku, Lifehacker, Deadspin, Jezebel, Jalopnik, The Root, The Onion and The A.V. Club, and reaches over 100 million unique visitors a month—more than one-third of all Americans. We connect with the young, diverse audiences that are shaping our future. Through fearless journalism, provoking comedy, and high-impact storytelling, we elevate the stories and issues our readers and viewers are passionate about.
About the Role:
Gizmodo is looking for a writer to cover the intersection of tech and politics in our spirited, fast-paced newsroom.
The ideal candidate for this position is a technology or Washington reporter with direct experience covering the beat, and a deep understanding of the major players and issues. You live and breathe politics and tech, and can opine at length on questions like: What moves are the tech giants making on the Hill? What are Nick Clegg and Joel Kaplan thinking? What are antitrust regulators forecasting? What senator said something wild in a hearing? Whose influence is undercovered?
This job will focus heavily on original reporting and feature writing. Well-informed hot takes are encouraged, and the ability to find unique, punchy angles is a must-have skill.
At least 2 years of experience reporting and editing technology or political journalism at a major print or digital publication.
A strong understanding of the major tech companies that matter on the Hill, and the politicians who actually make things happen (or stop them from happening!)
Experience identifying breaking news stories and planning smart features.
Knowledge of journalistic standards, laws, and best reporting practices.
A willingness to work from Gizmodo’s newsroom in NYC or LA.
To apply, please submit a resume and a cover letter explaining why you’re the right fit for the job.
