About the Role
The ideal candidate is intellectually curious and politically minded across a variety of stories and content: able to locate and expound on the racial dynamics in a new Disney movie and editorially eviscerate a travel ban. Staff writers are expected to contribute daily to Jezebel's news effort while also working on longform features, Q&As, and investigative pieces. Candidates should be comfortable pitching editors in real-time, while also generating longer lead ideas and angles for stories that arise.
The ideal candidate will:
Have 2-3 years’ experience in a fast-paced digital publication
Be capable of turning around around stories ranging from aggregated news blogs to investigative features at a quick pace
Respond nimbly to news and cultural events with tonally appropriate stories
Be able to turn a straight news story into copy that reflects a strong Jezebel voice and point of view
Be able to edit and report on a landscape of gender—including non-binary identities—not just "women's issues"
Be familiar with the Jezebel voice and audience
This role is not remote and will require you to commute into offices daily.
