About the Role:
G/O Media is looking for a Photo Illustrator to join our editorial art team, working on behalf of some of the most iconic brands in publishing: Gizmodo, Jezebel, Kotaku, Lifehacker, Jalopnik, and The Root. The primary duties of this job are to conceptualize and execute collage/composite illustrations for our stories and manage our photo subscriptions.
This is a full-time union position based out of our headquarters in New York City, reporting to our Head of Visuals.
Create photo illustrations for stories across our network of sites
Manage our subscriptions with AP, Getty and Shutterstock, which includes communicating with our reps, assuring our sites’ needs are met in our contracts, and approving invoices in a timely manner
Select, edit and license images from said services
Our Ideal Candidate:
2+ years experience in editorial image creation
Well read, culturally and politically literate, and familiar with G/O Media’s sites and their voice
Thrives in a fast-paced newsroom with tight deadlines
High aesthetic standards and strong editorial judgement
A creative problem-solver with a keen sense of storytelling and satire: you can read a post, conceptualize interesting visual solutions, and execute an image within hours
Ability and willingness to tackle a wide variety of topics
Strong organizational and communication skills
Exceptional knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and digital image creation
Familiarity with photo rights and crediting
Proficiency with DSLRs a plus
