About the Role:

As part of Onion Labs, the branded content division of The Onion, a Writer is responsible for developing hilarious branded content concepts. This includes but is not limited to video, imagery, digital banners, experiential stunts and sponsored articles.  

This role is responsible for working on many new brands every week and must adapt tone and execution to match each specific brand request. You are a natural communicator, a creative thinker and a problem solver with skills in both writing and ideating for different formats. 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Constantly come up with new concepts for a wide range of brands
  • Develop ideas for video concepts, experiential stunts, digital media and more
  • Juggle multiple projects at once
  • Understand strategy and how to execute on briefs
  • Collaborate with other writers and team members at all levels to ensure projects are consistent with brand guidelines and overall project goals
  • Actively participates in the creative process by asking questions and voicing opinions, and can effectively collaborate with stakeholders to determine project needs
  • Lead an idea to finished product, including video treatments, pre-pros, casting, etc.
  • Pitch ideas to clients
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Marketing, English or Communications preferred
  • 4 to 7 years of experience within copywriting
  • Agency experience is strongly preferred
  • Be a chameleon – able to write in many voices, changing from one to another as quickly as you change from one project to another
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be comfortable presenting to clients
  • Be pro-active, self-starting and always thinking
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Has strong attention to detail
  • Takes responsibility for the success of the projects they work on
  • Writing clear, concise and grammatically correct copy
  • Fluent in relevant software; Google Docs, MS Word, Powerpoint and Keynote
