Position Overview: Staff writers are fully dedicated to writing content for The Takeout and being the main driving force behind producing written content for the website, as well as editorial video, features, and any special projects that arise.
Core Responsibilities: • Writing articles across a wide spectrum of content types (reported stories, personal essays, recipe development, cookbook reviews, taste tests, etc.) • Meeting participation — required to attend all staff meetings, including calendar planning, pitch reviews, and other assorted departmental check-ins • Idea generation, brainstorming new articles, content types, features, theme weeks, marketing opportunities, etc. • Enthusiastically driving the mission and growth of The Takeout forward, assisting in establishing the voice and mission of a relatively new food site • Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications: • Background in journalism and/or food writing a plus • Strong writing skills • Efficient workflow and energetic approach to the material • Aptitude for developing thoughtful and engaging pieces that resonate with The Takeout’s readership • Participation in group-oriented idea generation • Capability to work on, and meet, tight deadlines
