An associate editor is dedicated to writing and reporting for the editorial team, being a driving force behind producing and Finalizing written content for The Takeout. They are also expected to be able to mentor and edit the work of full-time writers and some freelancers.
Idea generation, writing/reporting, and editing content
Special projects by request (examples include taste tests, cookbook reviews, video scripts, etc.)
Meeting participation — required to attend all staff meetings including pitch reviews, editorial calendar planning, and other departmental check-ins
Providing feedback and revision notes to freelancers on a regular basis
Assisting staff writers and freelancers in the formation and execution of ideas
Helping to outline and maintain The Takeout’s editorial calendar
Representing The Takeout at various media appearances
May be asked to help coordinate the ideation and execution of sponsored content
Additional duties as assigned
Background in journalism a plus
