About Finance @GoCardless

This is a great opportunity to join a high calibre finance team and make a tangible difference to the quality of their operations.  Investment in Marketing is planned to grow more than 120% annually YoY.  With greater investment comes increased scrutiny and the aim is to understand the ROI on every £ we spend.  To achieve this we need to have high quality numbers and one source of truth when it comes to our spend reporting; this role will own that Marketing number, ensuring we have business wide alignment on these numbers and that we are brilliant at the basics when it comes to planning and executing on marketing activity.  You’ll be expected to work closely with Marketing Operations to help determine the value of marketing investment and use metrics to build budgets and forecasts.

The role also has scope to include reporting and analysis on our VRA revenues - the largest revenue stream in the business - which are expected to grow by almost 50% YoY

The role

Being brilliant at the basics is a must, which means maintaining our position as an authority on Marketing spend.  The role has scope to add additional focus on revenue to add to build upon the following expectations:

  • Own the alignment of the rolling forecasts to the P&L, working alongside stakeholder (budget owners) to ensure the integrity of the reported numbers and that there is one version of the truth; includes accruals and prepayments and maintaining the quality of the balance sheet ready for audit

  • Own the integrity of the rolling forecasts, working alongside stakeholders to maintain or improve on the efficacy of the inputs to drive ROI reporting and inform budgeting and forecasting; you’ll need to update existing and/or build new planning models (in Excel/Google Sheets)

  • Support in resolving Supplier related challenges, including but not limited to quality of invoicing (improving the information included e.g. Coding), spend reconciliations and payment terms (e.g. commercial review of contracts)

  • Weekly and monthly reporting of revenue, performance metrics and spend; includes the need to build out a reporting deck and lead a monthly meeting with a demand generation team

Desired skills

  • Cost management in a commercial context:

    • Accruals and Prepayments

    • Reconciliations

    • Delivering a clean and consistent P&L and Balance sheet

  • Confidence in engaging with stakeholders, especially non-finance professionals 

  • Track record of process improvement to drive efficiency, ideally to financial process

  • Experience working in excel/google sheets to build finance models

Their feedback helped us develop our 'Adaptive Working' model, rolling out mid to late 2021. It's built around three components: days in the office, remote working, and enhanced environments. This means teams will be able to come into a GC office between one and three days per week for collaboration and teamwork, with the rest spent working remotely to enable a healthy work/life balance. We’ll also be reimagining our office environments so they enhance the collaboration and socialisation aspects our GeeCees told us they value most highly.

We continually review this approach in conjunction with the changing restrictions in each of our locations; additionally we offer support to maintain wellbeing and comfort, including subsidised home office equipment, workstation assessments and a range of remote social activities you can dip in and out of whenever you fancy.
