Glovo is a global player in the on demand delivery space operating in 20+ countries and growing. In 2018 we launched a new city every 4 days on average. This kind of growth has presented us with many opportunities to leverage our data and machine learning in unique ways such as intelligent dispatching, recommendation systems and personalisation. Our data on cities and users is growing exponentially so unlocking the potential of this data will be key to the future success of Glovo. That is why we are seeking an experienced engineering manager with a machine learning background to help us build a platform that will expose machine learning to our teams with the right tools, services and abstractions.
 
The Engineering manager for our machine learning team will lead a team of experienced machine learning engineers to help ensure efficient and rapid training and deployment of our models. You will thrive on seeing your team growing and delivering on impactful projects while finding new ways to leverage machine learning for the benefit of our users around the world.  As the manager of the team, you will also be the support backbone of your team, helping them grow and ensuring that they are motivated by their work and are a high performing team.

You will:

  • Manage and grow a team of engineers that manage and expand the infrastructure, services and tools that make up our machine learning platform
  • Ensure that we are making machine learning capabilities available to all teams and finding new ways to leverage our data with machine learning
  • Leverage data scientist insights in creating novel, data intensive, complex and real-time products, while providing vision and tools for further investigations
  • Ensure that the training pipelines are kept fast, efficient and observable so that developers receive feedback on their changes
  • Develop key KPIs for our ML pipelines and services developed and ensure the team is maintaining high availability of all ML services
  • Make sure the team is data driven in all its decisions
  • Ensure that the team is owning our machine learning capabilities end to end and are motivated, happy and productive.

Requirements:

  • Degree in computer science or similar
  • At least 5 years of experience with machine learning platforms and technologies
  • At least 3 years managing a team of engineers with proven ability to grow your team/hire and keep them motivated
  • Practical experience in several machine learning topics such as computer vision, natural language processing, recommendation systems, bayesian networks and deep learning
  • A deep sense of ownership for what you do with clear, demonstrable experience of proactiveness
  • Ability to understand the impact of changes within an engineering organisation and how best to manage that impact
