Givens Gerber Park, a nonprofit affordable senior housing community in south Asheville, is hiring a full-time Line Cook for our on-site Café. Reporting to the Café Supervisor, this position is Monday through Friday, 7 am - 3:30 pm. The Line Cook will join a supportive and creative team dedicated to providing high-quality food and service to residents and guests of the community.
What you'll do:
- Provides creative input for all menus and recipes
- Prepare and serve high-quality Café menu items
- Maintain the highest degree of sanitation, cleanliness, and food safety
- Completes weekly cleaning tasks and opening/closing duties as assigned
- Manage time to stay efficient and effective to produce food in timely manner
- Assist with ensuring that services are meeting and exceeding resident, guest, and team member expectations
- Reviews menus and prep lists to determine the type and quantities of menu items to be prepared
- Follow cooking schedule assigned by lead cook so that the finished product reaches the consumer at peak quality
- Follows standardized recipes developed and maintained leadership
- Safely operate all available equipment as directed by the manufacturer
- Regularly taste test menu items for flavor and texture throughout the cooking process
- Transfers or oversees the transfer of menu items from the cooking area to the serving area
- Makes recommendations for menu or recipe changes, especially when needed to prevent foods from spoiling
- Follow first-in first-out protocol
What you'll need:
- 1+ years experience in food service operations
- Be thoroughly familiar with foods and preparation methods
- Knowledge of proper methods and cooking temperatures for best utilization in yield of meats and other foods
- Knowledge of and an appreciation for principles and requirements of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment
- Grill, sauté, sauces & soups, and meat & fish fabrication experience
- Knowledge of proper temperatures and storage techniques
- Experience preparing and serving meals in an appealing and appetizing manner
- Must complete and pass ServSafe food handler training within 3 months of hire if not current
Compensation is $20 per hour, plus our comprehensive benefits package.
